For companies that want to create a micromobility electric vehicle, deICE is a standard that provides interoperability of batteries. 3. #EcoInnovationEnthusiasts (Ankara Hackathon Winners) #Members: Sedat Arıtürk, Mehmet Efe Göktürk, Berke Kıroğulları, Kaan Cem Çabuker, Prof. Dr. Ercan Ertürk and Assoc Prof. Mehmet Göktürk. #Challenge: People living in densely populated areas suffer from the heat island effect, making people consume more energy for cooling.  #Solution: We are reviving and upgrading a passive cooling system that uses cooling strategies that were forgotten in ancient times. 4. #HeatFighters (Athens Hackathon Winners) #Members:  Panagiotis Petropoulos, Panagiota Stamatelopoulou, Nikolaos Zapantiotis, and Ippokratis Tsevrenis. #Challenge: Urban Heat Island in Athens.  #Solution: Create an agency that would disrupt the status quo of lack of green roofs, reducing temperature by at least 27%. 5. #Vertifarm (Uppsala Hackathon Winners) #Members: Ray Kong, Chin Kiat “Vincent” Pang, Kim Lindfors and Pallav Shrestha. #Challenge: Improve food sufficiency with efficient land use.  #Solution: Rental service of small to medium-sized modular vertical farms and provide a service ecosystem to support it. Finals of the EU Sparks for Climate - the first European Citizens' Hackathon Championship The first phase of EU Sparks, the national/regional online hackathons across Europe has been completed. It brought together 75 teams from 22 Member States and 7 associated countries. More than 300 young people, students, researchers, innovators and citizens worked together in 14 events to use research results and available knowledge to improve their lives and help their communities to adapt to and mitigate climate change. This ends a six-month journey of innovation and co-creation, demonstrating the power of citizen engagement and knowledge valorisation. It has been made possible with the support of universities, research organisations, city councils and other institutions across Europe acting as local organisers, and more than 100 experts as mentors helping the teams to develop their ideas and as jury members giving feedback and advice and selecting the best teams to move on to the final. Teams will present their solutions to a jury panel of high level experts that will meet in Brussels. 🌍 The FAIR2Adapt-EOSC.eu Journey Begins! 🌱 Two weeks ago marked the kick-off of the FAIR2Adapt-EOSC.eu EU-funded project (Grant: 101188256, DOI: https://lnkd.in/dBFHy5yh), a transformative three-year journey tackling the challenges of FAIR and open data sharing to support climate change adaptation. ✨ I couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure, collaborating with experts across disciplines to co-create solutions that align with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) principles and will deliver genuine benefits to society. 🌱 Climate adaptation demands more than just environmental data—it requires integrating diverse data types, including socio-economic insights and local knowledge. These challenges make this project both inspiring and demanding. 🤝 Together with our sibling project, #CLIMATEADAPT4EOSC, funded under the same EU call, we aim to connect global and local resources, foster collaboration, and create climate-resilient solutions for Europe.🌟 ✨ As part of this journey, we’ve sealed a time capsule filled with general reflections and optimistic predictions, set to be opened in January 2028 when our project concludes! At the ICLEI World Congress 2024 Opening Ceremony, the resounding message was clear: Multilevel action and cooperation are essential for sustainable development. Over 1,200 attendees gathered to celebrate the crucial role of global networks in connecting cities, towns, regions, and communities worldwide and accelerating ambitious climate action. Speakers emphasized the power of local networks in achieving global sustainability. These networks are vital in addressing the climate emergency and the myriad challenges cities face, from housing and infrastructure to basic services and public spaces.
