Modern art often seeks to bridge the gap between the contemporary world and its historical roots. When it comes to representing ancient wooden equipment in a modern artistic context, artists have found innovative ways to pay homage to these historical artifacts while infusing them with a fresh perspective. One intriguing approach in modern art involves the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern art. This juxtaposition of ancient design with cutting-edge art not only highlights the craftsmanship of the past but also showcases the possibilities of the present.

Buildup to exhibition 4: The colour white The colour white contains an equal balance of all the colours from the sun's spectrum (Newton's prism experiment). Since it reflects light at 100%, it glows softly. White, apart from its property to reflect all colours of the sun's spectrum and thus holding all possibilities, is a white slate. In art, this allows the artist to create any form he can think of, given the material constraints. However, white also asks for simplicity and purity, timelessness and never ending abstraction. It is the calm against modern superficiality and haste; silence amongst the noise; minimalism amongst all the meaningless décor. White is simple rather than complicated, accomplishes everything with almost nothing – more with less. Light, shade and form come to the forefront.

“What comes to your mind when you think of the 1920s? For most people, the 1920s conjures up images of jazz, flappers, Old Hollywood, the Great Gatsby, and the Chrysler Building in New York City. It was a time of prosperity, exorbitant spending, and entertainment that gave rise to one of the most popular decorative #arts and architecture movements — known as #ArtDeco. Characterized by exquisite craftsmanship, lavish decoration, and rich materials, the style has become synonymous with the Roaring Twenties. So, what was the Art Deco movement all about and what differentiates it from other major movements? Finally, despite its popularity today, what makes Art Deco so closely associated with the 1920s?" I have to admit I am one of those people who loves Art Deco. The Great Gatsby is my favorite book. It all speaks to me in a positive way. Speaking of speaking a fun activity that students enjoy when on a #museum visit is to have them imagine what the subject in an artwork might be saying. Hand out papers with an image of the piece they are viewing. Each page will have a blank speech bubble on it where students can write their imagined dialogue. Art Deco pieces are a good place to start this activity because they usually have clear images that are somewhat familiar to most students. The best part is hearing the dialogue students imagined along with their rationale for it. Have you ever done this activity before? How did it go? What did you learn by doing it? I encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments. #MuseumEducation https://lnkd.in/gcGbNu2R

Contemporary depiction of the various cutting styles of rose-cut diamonds. A primarily theoretical framework? A contemporary representation of the different cuts of rose-cut diamonds, based on diagrams that have been used in professional literature for centuries, appears to be primarily a theoretical framework. Over the years of dealing in genuine antique rose diamonds, I rarely encounter a stone that is cut exactly according to one of these images; they generally only approximate them. The perfect symmetry shown is rare in practice. It can be said with considerable certainty that, when you find a perfectly cut diamond in what appears to be an old jewel, it is unlikely to be a stone cut in earlier times. The diagrams represent more an idealistic image that has been adopted by theorists in our field and refined over the years at their drawing board. Moreover, these images lack what I call the 'table rose cut': a variant on the 15th – 17th century rose diamond, but with a flat table, a very low pavilion, and an "open" culet, overall somewhat similar to a kind of "old-cut" emerald-cut. I can imagine that the theorists who have apparently copied these cutting styles from one another in professional literature for centuries, have not engaged deeply with the practical issues that a dealer or cutter encounters, such as minimising weight loss during cutting. Whereas the focus used to probably be on finding a balance between the shape of the diamond and minimising weight loss, today the emphasis is more on achieving perfect symmetry in the stone. As a result, weight loss of the raw material has become a (more or less) secondary consideration. An additional effect of the contemporary pursuit of perfect symmetry is that the girdles of the contemporary roses are much higher/thicker than those of the old roses, where the girdle was, not uncommonly, razor-sharp. And this in turn means that (generally) the ratio between diameter and weight in old and new stones differs significantly. Old stones with the same diameter as modern stones are often much lighter in weight. Now that I'm discussing the girdle and looking at the diagram again, I notice that the girdle is neither drawn nor mentioned. How much more theoretical can a drawing be?

#Lovely work with transitional abstract patterns Tayo. Great work my friend and I am certain this will do well considering the prevailing market trends. I thought this video was very well captured for our dear friends in the #upholstery & #furniture business and eventually the #brands and the #final customers who buy the finished product. Ladies and Gentlemen, your quest for #designs, #aesthetics, #colors and #customisation begins many months before you get to see something on the loom. Never underestimate the great power of #visualisation - the #Designers work with the meter or roll price of what you eventually get.... Because every #designer has already seen every design they conceive sit (draped) on your #chair, #sofa, #bench, #stool, the #headboard and or #accessories. For their efforts to create and showcase something new the #designer has to think ahead and on visualising - creating their art-work is just 25% of their work. 75% effort is to get their design transferred into successful products. Without getting into #technicality of the whole process they work on the #size of design, #repeat of pattern and its #color pallet. The precise movement of the #jacquard #shaft in the video is part of the 75% of all the hard work our dear friend has invested in. Least you forget it is important to note this is just one design - and I know in visiting him you will see much much more! 🥂 #sales #design #construction #furnituredesign #furniturefabrics #furnitureindustry #furniture #convertors #highpoint #furnituremanufacturer #printfabric #upholsteryfabric #residential #contractdesign #contractfabric #outdoor #Performancefabric #USretail #wholesale #exports #design #luxury #handbags #travelbags #outdoor #indoor Horizons Unlimited - India #KnowledgNEXT #fashion #lifestyle #genuineleather #upholstery MUJI U.S.A. In a world of mass production, I take great delight in things made by hand and perfected by the artisan through skill and experience. That brought me to wonder about Art Deco and how it was used in Architectural design. I think the point was to create exclusivity by using talented craftsmen who could create unique pieces. To a great extent, Art Deco is epitomized by the works that were shown at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern and Industrial Decorative Arts), held in Paris in 1925. One example of a building facade is the Eastern Columbia Building. Have a stellar week ahead:))

The Art and History of Azulejos - Exploring Portuguese Tiles The art form known as azulejos holds a significant place in Portuguese culture, history, and art. Azulejos are beautiful ceramic tiles that adorn buildings, churches, and public spaces throughout Portugal. Derived from the Arabic word "al zuleique," meaning "polished stone," azulejos are more than just decorative tiles; they represent a rich tapestry of Portuguese heritage and craftsmanship. Portuguese tiles have played a crucial role in shaping the artistic and historical landscape of the country. For centuries, they have served as a medium for artistic expression, allowing artists to convey stories, commemorate historical events, and showcase cultural traditions. These tiles not only beautify architectural structures but also serve as a testament to Portugal's vibrant history, reflecting the diverse influences and artistic styles that have shaped the nation over the years. From intricate patterns to elaborate narratives, Portuguese tiles are a testament to the skill and creativity of the artisans who crafted them, and they continue to be treasured and celebrated to this day.
