Natural Gas Processing Plants: Natural gas streams come from the following types ofwells: Oil wells Gas wells Condensate wells. Gas coming from an oil well is referred to as "associated gas", which can exist dissolved in crude oil or separated from it. Gas coming from the other two types of wells is known as "non-associated gas". It has little to no crude oil in its composition. Five Main Processing Stages: Natural gas processing has five main stages: 1. Removal of oil and condensate 2. Removal of sulfur and carbon dioxide 3. Dehydration 4. Natural gas liquids (NGLs) extraction 5. Fractionation of NGLs. Natural gas processing plants often use more complex equipment depending on the circumstances. The Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) industry is a relatively new part of the global energy market at just roughly 50 years old, but it is one of the fastest growing segments of the global energy industry. The LNG process chain is complex and diverse and there are a number of different processes from extraction, liquefaction and transport through to consumption. To ensure the safety of these processes, pressure relief devices such as safety valves and rupture discs are required to be used in various aspects of the LNG process chain to ensure that there are no serious accidents caused by overpressure. A safety valve is a spring-loaded pressure-relief valve actuated by the static pressure upstream of the valve. A rupture disc is a non-reclosing pressure relief device activated by static differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the device. Both safety valves and rupture discs are possible solutions to the problem of overpressure in LNG processes, but each device has benefits and disadvantages. Gas Processing Techniques Gas Dehydration (water content removal to prevent corrosion, formation of gas hydrates and to meet content specifications. Gas Sweetening H2S and CO2 are most common sour (acid) gas contaminants present in natural gas. In order to make natural gas fit for commercial usage, it is mandatory to remove these containments. The process of removing H2S and CO2 from natural gas is called gas sweetening.
