Apple is now sending threat notifications to customers who Apple's threat detection system has detected may be being targeted by 'mercenary spyware.' When Apple says 'mercenary spyware,' they are basically talking about Pegasus level spyware - spyware that is targeting politicians, activists, journalists, and the like. (I doubt run of the mill spyware apps - for example, the jealous lover downloading a spyware app onto a victim's iPhone - will be included in this notification system.) From the Apple website: "If Apple detects activity consistent with a mercenary spyware attack, we notify the targeted users in two ways: - A Threat Notification is displayed at the top of the page after the user signs into appleid.apple.com. - Apple sends an email and iMessage notification to the email addresses and phone numbers associated with the user’s Apple ID.
