EU Global Action on Space’s Post

Last week the Interreg NPA team participated in the #EUArcticForum and #IndigenousPeoplesDialogue, and EU-Arctic Youth Dialogues (#YT4AF), jointly organized by the European Commission and the European External Action Service. We were invited to share with concrete examples how Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic and Interreg Aurora projects can make a difference to reach the goals of a more green and inclusive European Arctic.  It was also highlighted that these programmes are an instrument for Arctic communities to work together on topics of relevance to them, because Interreg programmes offer resources and skills, but it is the local communities who need to come up with the project ideas and solutions. Above all, it was an opportunity to learn what Interreg programmes can do better to facilitate local communities, indigenous peoples and youth participation in European cooperation programmes across borders. Last week, on behalf of Provincie Zeeland, we traveled to Gozo to participate in the 52nd General Assembly of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR). Gozo, an island next to Malta, is a prime example of a peripheral maritime region. The journey, which involved a flight, car ride and a ferry, clearly highlighted the challenges faced by such regions. At this General Assembly, representatives from over 70 European maritime regions came together to discuss energy, climate, mobility, cohesion policy and more. Together, a strong lobby is being conducted towards the European Parliament and the European Commission to advocate for the interests of maritime regions. The result of three intensive days is the formulation of clear messages for each theme in the form of policy positions and the final declaration. With these unified and well-defined positions, the lobby will continue over the coming months to ensure that the new European policies and the multiannual financial framework align with the needs of our regions. #CPMR #Gozo #CohesionPolicy #Energy #Climate #Europe #Cooperation

Fascinating day in Copenhagen, one of Europe’s great sea-facing cities, listening to what our customers and stakeholders across the Maritime ecosystem need to harness the power of digitalisation to drive efficient and effective operations, enhance safety at sea and deliver decarbonisation; and exploring the obstacles and issues that have so far impeded scaleable, global adoption. This is a highly fragmented landscape with many divergent perspectives on the ‘what, how, who and when’. But there’s been pretty universal recognition that connectivity is the oxygen that will breathe life into the transformations that are required to deliver the step-change that is both essential and perfectly feasibility if we can collectively get our act together. Focus on what problem we are solving, alignment on priorities and collaboration across boundaries are urgently required.

Oceano Azul Foundation and Europe Jacques Delors have joined forces to launch the #EuropeanOceanDeal initiative 🌊 In the run-up to the 2024 #EUElections, it is time for action to safeguard our ocean's future and our continent's prosperity. The ocean is not just a vast expanse of water; it is the lifeline of our planet. From climate regulation to food security, innovation to clean energy, its importance cannot be overstated. Yet, the ocean's health is deteriorating, and the EU's current approach is not enough. That is why Oceano Azul Foundation and Europe Jacques Delors are advocating for a bold and holistic European Ocean Deal. Supported by experts in both EU affairs and ocean conservation, this initiative aims to galvanise political support for an ambitious EU ocean agenda in the upcoming legislature 🤝 The European Ocean Deal will champion a science-based approach, integrating social, economic, and educational opportunities for sustainable growth, environmental protection, and geopolitical stability. Building upon the Mission Starfish 2030's groundwork, this initiative sets out to revolutionise EU maritime policy.
