Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea's representative, Dr Bernhard Seliger, recently published an article entitled "Towards a Green Revolution in North Korea - Hydropower, International Climate Regimes and the Nuclear Elephant in the Room" for the magazine KORUM. KORUM magazine is a KGCCI publication that provides information on Korea's economy, markets, businesses, technologies, tax, legal or cross-cultural issues. The magazine also contains information on the activities of the KGCCI and its member companies and is published three times a year. Dr. Seliger's latest article deals with the history of industrialisation in North Korea and its former active participation in the implementation of international energy and climate policies. However, he also argues that the continued advancement of the nuclear and military programme prevents a renewed integration into the international community and thus still stands in the way of a green revolution in North Korea. You can find the full article in English on pages 22 to 26 in the second issue of KORUM Magazine in 2024 entitled: "The Green Revolution: Driving Carbon Neutrality in Energy". Dag Avango, Professor at Luleå University of Technology and director of Arctic Five, delivers the opening speech at the seminar 'The Arctic perspective in the EU research agenda' held in Brussels in mid-May. The objective of the seminar is to discuss how Arctic research can answer to the needs that occur with the transition the region is undergoing. The discussions will focus on how the ambitions of the EU’s Arctic policy can be included in the future research priorities. “The European Arctic is undergoing considerable changes related to demands for natural resources, renewable energy and green products, as well as to growing global geopolitical tensions in the wake of Russia’s war against Ukraine. These changes have implications on a wide range of issues such as impacts on Arctic environments and communities, natural resource governance and a broad range of security issues in the Arctic. The EU’s research agenda plays a crucial role in informing policy decisions and shaping strategies for sustainable development in the Arctic and ultimately to the whole European Union”, says Dag Avango. The seminar is organised by North Sweden European Office and North Norway European Office in cooperation with the EU Arctic Forum and Indigenous People’s Dialogue. The Arctic Five is a partnership between five universities in the Arctic of Sweden, Norway and Finland. hashtag #arctic hashtag #arktis hashtag #luleåtekniskauniversitet Foto: Laura Vendelin

🚀 8th Southeast Europe Energy Forum (SEEF 2024) 🌍by American - Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Hellenic Association For Energy Economics (HAEE) ⚡Georgios Stassis, PPC S.A. "Alongside geopolitical crises, the climate and energy crisis is unfolding, particularly affecting Southeast Europe with extreme weather phenomena. This puts a strain on our energy infrastructure and pressures affordability. Energy systems must be flexible, stable, reliable, and affordable. Resilient grids and storage will offer this flexibility, not only in Greece but across the entire Southeast European region. The relationship between Southeast European countries and the US is critical. This is not a call for protectionism but a call for forming new partnerships." 📅 Date: September 6, 2024 📍 Location: The MET Hotel, Thessaloniki, Greece #EnergyTransition #SEEF2024
