There was a lot of traffic at the poster session of Tjardo Maarseveen at the EULAR - European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology conference, where one of SPIDERR's studies about referral letters was presented. In this study, musculoskeletal diseases were predicted using a machine learning algorithm that analyzed only general practitioner referral letters. Prior to a secondary care visit at an outpatient clinic, the algorithm was capable of identifying patients with a high risk for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and Osteoarthritis. To deliver timely and adequate care, it is important that we can identify these diseases as early as possible.
