🚨 The power and fury of our #weather. This is #StormÉowyn hitting #Ireland and the #UnitedKingdom with hurricane-equivalent wind speeds, as seen from EUMETSAT’s #Meteosat-10 geostationary weather satellite today at 10:45 UTC. ❗ ❗ Met Éireann reported a new record-breaking gust of 183 km/h and an average wind speed of 135 km/h (provisional figures) at Mace Head. (Previous record was 1945). 🙏 Thank you to WMO's 2nd Vice President Eoin Moran and the entire staff of Met Éireann and the Met Office for your life-saving forecasts and top-level #RedAlert warnings. Please stay safe everyone! #EarlyWarningsForAll

Thank you Celeste Saulo for your supportive and kind words - this is much appreciated. It is an honour to work with such a talented and committed team at Met Éireann who are so dedicated to our mission of protecting life and property. It is also a privilege to work with the WMO, EUMETSAT, ECMWF, EUMETNET and with our ACCORD and UWC-West partners in researching, developing and implementing the scientific predictive capability underpinning all Ireland's warnings and forecasts for #StormÉowyn. Our rapidly changing climate is synergising with naturally occurring weather patterns to push impacts to the extremes. Our remarkably collaborative global meteorological community is needed now more than ever before to serve society through our support for emergency management and our authoritative advice on climate change. Thank you for your inspirational leadership Celeste! #EarlyWarningsForAll

Thanks for sharing Celeste Saulo. 83 mph is definitely not good for thatched roofing in Wexford, and County Limerick. Also, a little too much for the largest offshore wind turbines that cut out at 31m/s.
