#Justlaunched a new dataset for #GLOFs in High Mountain Asia. The dashboard is a repository of over 700 glacial lake outburst floods dating back almost two centuries, and including recent devastating events. The GLOF dashboard captures a number of key datapoints about each flood: date, time, place, volume of water; triggers; physical characteristics of the lake dam; and the impact in lives, livelihoods, property and infrastructure. This dataset serves as a crucial foundation for further scientific investigations and providing a robust data basis for downstream impact and risk assessments. With coastal water levels resolved for tides, storm surge - including sea level anomalies, we can more accurately project the full potential for flood exposure of higher sea level, rainfall intensity, and stream runoff anticipated with climate change. I’m excited to share our new efficient compound flood modeling framework that shows nature-based adaptation strategies can reduce flood exposure into the 2080s and expand floodplain habitat benefiting salmon recovery.
