“Starmer does not have a signature global issue yet, and is unlikely to see AI as that issue,” says our expert Scott Bade. “But I'd be surprised if the UK didn’t keep showing up at the table to build on what Sunak did since this is the niche Britain now has in AI global governance. It will just be dialed down a peg or two.” GZERO Media

#ainews Kelly Cohen - Zachary Huhn policy - governance. Per an AI webinar I was attending with Greg Erdman we were informed that US FED was going to allow states to create policy for AI legislation. Looks like California is moving forward. Californian Senator Scott Weiner has put forward a bill that aims to ensure the safe development of large-scale AI systems through the introduction of what he describes as “clear, predictable, common-sense safety standards.” The bill, which is also known as SB 1047, would seek to establish safety standards for developers of the largest and most powerful AI systems, with Weiner specifically stating that startups would not fall under the scope of the legislation. https://lnkd.in/gMP7-exH

"The fear of a rogue #superintelligence taking over the world is increasingly influencing the perception of #AI among decision makers. The drama around the hiring-firing-then-rehiring of #OpenAI CEO Sam Altman highlighted this radical shift’s consolidation, revealing a deep split in the AI community between the ‘doomer’ and ‘boomer’ factions..." "Thankfully, it seems that #EU regulators have not been swayed by the alarmism surrounding the AI Act’s drafting. If the final text preserves the current focus and balance, the AI Act could become an inspiration for a more meaningful, less long-sighted approach to global AI #governance." Very insightful article by Paula Gürtler at #GRID CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies)
