foundingGIDE is a project coordinated by #EuroBioImaging and funded under the European Commission's Horizon Europe framework program. It is dedicated to enabling the interoperability of image data resources through #ontology mapping and harmonisation of #metadatamodels. The foundingGIDE Community Event took place in Okazaki, Japan, back-to-back with Global BioImaging Exchange of Experience. The event brought together nearly 130 participants from 26 countries, including global imaging experts, policymakers, funders, and imaging and data researchers. The goal was to drive forward solutions for FAIR biological and preclinical image data in a collaborative effort to lay the foundation for a coordinated Global Image Data Ecosystem (GIDE). The next afoundingGIDE Community Event is already on the horizon! Mark your calendars for October 17–18, 2025, in Brisbane, Australia. #globalcooperation #imagedata Check out the recorded presentations from this event ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dxcwmXkg

Most of this week has so far been spent on administration related to the UCL Centre for Integrative Anatomy's annual #symposium (or meeting or #conference - its all of those!) happening on Thursday 20 February 2025, just downstairs from my office in the Anatomy Building, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT. Sign up via the QR code/Eventbrite platform below. It's going to be quite a day, with about 17 speakers (yes, we do only run from 10am until 5pm, but they each get only about a 15 minute slot, so short & sweet #presentations - except for our keynote #speaker, who gets 30 minutes!), and refreshments before, twice during and after the proceedings, and a long lunch break - so no chance of leaving hungry or thirsty. The post-symposium refreshments are optional and we'll walk to a local hostelry (pub) for an informal wind-down and to continue our conversations. So, there'll be plenty of opportunities for socialising, networking, discussing the topics presented and other matters of mutual interest, and time also to meet those people you may want to get to know to further your career, research interests or the like. The overall theme is functional #morphology, which is about the way that animals' shapes develop differently, in response to their having to perform or operate differently from before; for example, changes in their #environment may lead to changing #food sources/supplies, which in turn means they may have to employ their #jaws differently, etc. Fascinating! And of relevance to all #animals, including #humans, throughout #evolutionary time. We'll post more details of the talks in the coming weeks, so watch here or on the various Centre social media channels. #anatomy #biology #paleo #palaeontology #formandfunction #evolution #fossils #evodevo #development #locomotion #biomechanics #kinematics #imaging #scan Julie Barrett

A new study published in Current Biology reveals a deep connection between the larynx and the syrinx tissues. Scientists observed that the same genes controlled the development of vocal organs in mice and chicken embryos, even though the organs arose from different embryological layers. Check out the link to learn more about this fascinating research. #science #biology #research

Our warmest congratulation to our PhD student Carlo di Carlo for his poster presentation at the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), the Austrian Neuroscience Association (ANA) and the Hungarian Neuroscience Society Forum 2024, taking place in Vienna, Austria, from 25-29 June 2024. Carlo is presenting a poster entitled “Novel DVC Interlinking home cage monitoring system facilitates social behavioural testing in mice”, authors: Di Carlo C, Melloni A, Golini E, Rigamonti M, Mandillo S, Bernabò N, Barboni B. Here Carlo describes the results of a project, realized thanks a collaboration among the Department of Biosciences and Technology for Food, Agriculture and Environment, University of Teramo, Genetics and Epigenetics of Behaviour (GEB) Laboratory, Italian Institute of Technology, Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (CNR-IBBC/EMMA/Infrafrontier/IMPC), National Research Council, Tecniplast SpA. It is focused on the application of a very innovative technology, the Digital Ventilated Cage (DVC ®) systems patented by Tecniplast, which has revolutionized animal housing in research facilities by allowing precise control of environmental conditions to ensure optimal animal welfare. The potential of DVC Interlinking system is highlighted, creating novel experimental setups to improve animal welfare and accurate behavioural research. This study provides valuable insights into the integration of advanced housing technologies with behavioural methods, paving the way for more sophisticated and ethologically relevant experimental designs. #FENSmeting #Tecniplast #CNR #neuroscience #computationalbiology #artificialintelligence

The Biggest Discoveries in Biology in 2023 evolutions in the biological sciences can take many forms. Sometimes they erupt from the use of a novel tool or the invention of a radical theory that suddenly opens so many new avenues for research, it can feel dizzying. Sometimes they take shape slowly, through the slow accumulation of studies, each one representing years of painstaking work, that collectively chip away at the prevailing wisdom and reveal a stronger, better intellectual framework. Both kinds of revolution unleash avalanches of new ideas and insights that improve our understanding of how life works. #biologystudent #cellbiology #zoology #laboratory #mbbs #molecularbiology #lab #biologymemes #wildlife #biotech #medico #medicalstudent Follow us on Twitter : https://lnkd.in/eBYdsWMn Linkedin- : https://lnkd.in/eVkvCEeU... Employing the CIPRES Gateway, Stellenbosch University successfully conducted their research, showcasing the platform's robust capabilities. Their results indicated that P. sidneyi is a species complex comprised of two cryptic lineages, occurring in sympatry contemporarily possibly alluding to secondary contact. #SpeciesComplex #CrypticLineages #PSidneyi #BiodiversityResearch #EvolutionaryBiology #PhylogeneticAnalysis #ComputationalBiology #SpeciesDelimitation #SympatricSpecies #SecondaryContact #MolecularEcology #ZoologicalResearch #BioinformaticsTool #PopulationGenetics #SpeciationStudy #ConservationGenetics https://buff.ly/3zATgDM

How does one cell become an entire body? Merlin Lange, Loic Royer and scientists at #CZBiohubSF tackled one of biology’s biggest questions. By building bespoke microscopy tools, they were able to track single cells in high resolution within individual zebrafish embryos. A five year labor of love, they used this technology to build a comprehensive atlas of vertebrate development in exquisite detail. Named the Zebrahub, this open access atlas will be a foundational blueprint for future studies on how organisms, including humans, develop. This information is key to understanding how diseases arise and how we may be able to leverage the powers of development for regeneration. #science #CellBiology #CellDevelopment #SingleCell
