With a new government in place, we have a unique opportunity to renew efforts to protect children’s rights. We are proud to join nearly 90 organisations in endorsing the Children’s Rights Charter by the Children’s Rights Alliance for England. The Charter calls on the new UK Government to prioritise children’s rights by - implementing a comprehensive Child Rights Strategy - establishing a dedicated Cabinet Minister for Children - increasing budget allocations for children’s services - ensuring statutory obligations for Child Rights Impact Assessments - developing a strategy for increasing awareness, knowledge and understanding of children's right - and incorporating the UN Convention on the Rights of Child into domestic law. Unpopular opinion: Mar Galcerán as Spain’s first parliamentarian with Down’s syndrome, is merely a reminder that even today in 2024 — events like these have only happened for the first time. And that is unfortunate. Quick fact check - Mar became the first parliamentarian in September 2023, but this was pushed to publicity recently, because of Pubity, which led to multiple media coverage. Looking on the bright side, it’s a start. Galcerán may be the first in Europe, to join a regional or national parliament For more than 20 years Galcerán had worked as a civil servant in Valencia, most recently helping to carve out inclusive policy, adding to the four years she spent at the helm of Asindown, a Valencian organisation dedicated to helping families with children that have Down’s syndrome. We need more people with disabilities at the helm of politics, leading businesses or other organizations. This would help in: 1. A diverse and inclusive decision-making process. 2. Focus on disability rights and accessibility. 3. Inspiring all & breaking stereotypes. 4. Promoting a cohesive society. Are you of the opinion that this should become the norm? #politics #spain #BeverlyWrites
