Paris Paralympics: A global call for equitable access to assistive technology – Euractiv The WHO estimates that access to assistive technology is severely limited worldwide, affecting over 2.5 billion people. Only 5-35% of those needing a wheelchair have access to one, and just 10% of the global demand for hearing aids is met. https://lnkd.in/eD233WAv #PublicHealth #Europe #StayInformed #StayEmpowered

Vodafone, Founding Principal Partner of Wales Women’s and Girl’s Rugby, has added new concussion tracking technology to its revolutionary PLAYER.Connect platform, to help female athletes better track and manage the symptoms of concussion. "Anti-Sex" beds or "Save the Planet" beds The cardboard beds from the 2020 Tokyo Games have made a comeback in the Olympic Village ahead of the 2024 Paris Games, which start in a few days. 🛏️📦 I must be living in a cave, as I had not heard about this. Fortunately, our trusted source of all news, Instagram, educated me on this. I came across a bunch of athletes’ clips of the cardboard beds that had greeted them in Paris. 🇫🇷 There were rumors that the beds were initially designed to prevent Olympians from having sex. But the rumors were debunked by athletes even during Tokyo games. Rhys McClenaghan (an Irish gymnast) posted an updated video on Instagram a few days ago, where he was doing somersaults and a handstand on his bed in Paris. The bed refused to fold so it can probably handle some bedroom rodeo. On their TikTok, the organizers say it’s done in the name of sustainability and claim everything will be recycled. Hmmm… are we still greenwashing?♻️ Personally, I can’t even write a decent blog post if I haven’t had a good night’s sleep. I wonder if the cardboard-supported sleep has any impact on the Olympians breaking world records.. Mixed feelings on this 👀 What are your thoughts? #sustainability #olympicgames #parisolympics #cardboardbeds #greenwashing #sleep

The recent news highlighting the lack of accessibility in the Paris transport system, especially the Metro, in the lead-up to the Paralympics is so concerning. It really is disheartening to see that despite the city’s promises of improved infrastructure for the Games, many athletes and visitors with disabilities will face challenges navigating the city. The fact that only one of the 16 Metro lines is fully wheelchair-accessible is a stark reminder of the broader issues of inclusivity and accessibility that still need to be addressed in our societies. It’s a collective responsibility to advocate for and implement changes that make our cities more inclusive.
