Thank you to Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (and to the inimitable Cass Wright) for the opportunity to hear from some incredible women and to share some of my thoughts on #IWD. One of the best events I have been part of on #IWD - Myfanwy Warhurst was funny, wise and humble sharing her own challenges. A few times I think I'd have cried if she didn't set me off with the giggles again. Impressed by the grit, clarity and talent of Emma Williams, and bought together with the vitality and authenticity of MC, Heidi Anderson. I'm actually certain I could have listened for hours to the story of every single person in the room. To be honest, I've struggled in the past like many of us have, with having to champion women, especially at work. It might be socially unacceptable to say, but equality for me has always been less the end game than Excellence is. Some points I reflected on: 1. Workplaces all espouse they want to be at the top of their game, and if you are not gender diverse (diverse fullstop) you have a hole in your bucket. If you think what got you this far will be the same thing that takes you to the next level, you're wrong. 2. Our external environment is changing too fast and the assumptions on which organisations base their decisions, is not. 3. This is not the Industrial Revolution. The person in charge of the Widget Factory no longer needs to have operated every position on the conveyor belt. We do not need subject matter experts in the same way now we have accessibility to global trends and AI to outsource knowledge to. 4. We need collaboration, empathy, humility and openness to learning and accessibility more than ever. These are qualities currently that are more innate to women. 5. Stop championing diversity and then training women (and men) to dilute their unique contributions so we don't make each other feel uncomfortable. There's no point having diversity and then trying to dilute everyone to the norm. The norm is ordinary. Since when did we aspire to ordinary. I am inspired my so many women - none the least the 3 incredible ones I get the privilege of raising. But change so far still feels more transactional than transformative. We transformed work overnight when the world woke to COVID. If we change our mindsets we can do the same with this too.

There is nothing better than having people respect your time. We took this into consideration in planning two conferences - both targeting women in ag and food. ARE YOU ORGANISING AN INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’ DAY EVENT? IF SO, Token Man Consulting and WeAreTheCity NEED YOUR HELP Could you imagine if we could get every man who attends an International Women's Day (IWD) event in the UK & Ireland this year to complete their own personal male allyship canvas, detailing what they are going to deliver this year to help ensure workplaces are more inclusive for everyone? What do you think the collective outcome could be? Will it ensure that those men who showed their support on IWD and were determined to do that bit more don’t get sidetracked or stuck, not knowing where to start? Will it help ensure that celebrating women and ensuring that we create workplaces that are fully inclusive for everybody is not confined to a single day? Well, that’s what Daniele Fiandaca (Token Man) are trying to pilot this year, in collaboration with us and supported by the brilliant Harriet Waley-Cohen, Matt Foster To test it, all we need to do is to get at least 10 corporates signed up to commit to asking all their male attendees to sign up to our panel. 🌟 Happy International Women's Day #IWD2024🌟 There are a lot of touching stories of success being shared across social media today. Let's celebrate this! ... but our work is not done! Let's also remember that there is still a lot of work to be done to advance Women's Rights in #healthcare... and an onus on women leaders in healthcare to be advocates and leader toward health equity. On this International Women's Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the crucial strides needed to promote women's rights in healthcare and address gender inequalities prevalent in medical science and patient care. 💜 In 2020, Angela H.E.M. Maas wrote an insightful article published in Maturitas (2020 Jun; 136: 22–24) called "Empower Women in Healthcare to move Women’s Health forward." Maas emphasizes that historically, medical science and patient care have predominantly focused on male patients, leading to delayed and sometimes misdiagnosed health issues in women. Her research findings indicate that despite women living longer, they experience more unhealthy years due to barriers in accessing quality healthcare services. Socio-cultural factors further compound these challenges, impacting women's health, wellbeing, and disease outcomes differently than men. Moreover, Maas underscores the disproportionate burden of non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular diseases (CVD) on women, exacerbated by gender disparities in healthcare access and treatment. The article stresses the importance of gender equality and equal rights for women in healthcare leadership positions to address these disparities effectively. By empowering women in healthcare and recognizing the value of female values such as creativity, empathy, and mutual connection, we can elevate women's health on the global agenda.
