Held from 20-28 August, this trade mission featured 50 exhibitors showcasing over 90 Australian wine brands across Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou. With more than 2,500 Chinese trade visitors attending, including influential buyers and media, the event marked a key moment in re-establishing Australia’s wine presence in China following the lifting of duties earlier this year. 🍇 Wine Australia’s General Manager, Marketing, Paul Turale, highlighted the overwhelming enthusiasm for Australian wines. The event not only allowed producers to reconnect with Chinese consumers but also sparked optimism for future growth in the region. Her aim was to push ahead with the planning and discussion of ProWein 2025 and to maintain an intensive dialogue with the winemakers from Portugal. The first Vinitaly Official USA event is taking place in Chicago on October 20-21 with a focus on promoting and supporting the Italian wine industry on an international scale. This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between various institutions and trade associations, underscoring the importance of unity in promoting Italian wine. Maurizio Danese, the President of Veronafiere, highlighted the collaboration of key governmental and industry bodies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the ITA Trade Agency. Additionally, prominent Italian trade associations like Unione Italiana Vini, Federvini, Coldiretti, and Confagricoltura have played a critical role. This partnership demonstrates a “win-win” approach, where public and private sectors work together to create meaningful support for Italian companies in the competitive global wine market. This event represents a concerted effort to promote Made in Italy products, leveraging high-profile international platforms to boost the visibility and reputation of Italian wines. Over the past 2 weeks, Export Connect has delivered a number of projects on behalf of our state industry partners. Our engagement with the Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development which commenced in May, is now moving towards completion, as we have finalised pitch decks for 19 suppliers and will shortly be preparing them for buyer meetings across the retail, food service and liquor industries in WA and the eastern seaboard. With Fine Food Australia in four weeks time, further projects were undertaken on behalf of Investment NSW as well as Global Victoria and Food & Drink Victoria to help prepare in excess of 20 food and beverage suppliers, including distillers, who will be participating under their respective states’ stands. The preparation included both a face-to-face workshop, as well as a webinar, covering domestic and international market development, retail, food service and liquor channel trends, understanding what buyers are looking for, pitch deck preparation, followed up with marketing and promoting your stand at Fine Foods. Rounding out this trifecta of projects has been a further initiative of Global Victoria, who are running a spirits capability building program, which includes 15 spirits buyers from a number of Asian markets visiting Melbourne and regional Victoria from 12th August, to understand more about our spirits industry and distillers behind them, where the expectation is a number of the distillers will open up new export markets. The program involved Export Connect meeting with 18 distillers across whisky, gin, rum, vodka and RTD’s, followed up with meetings of the 15 inbound buyers to obtain insights as to their respective markets and categories of interest, finishing off with a webinar to present the findings to a number of the spirits suppliers. It is pleasing to note, that based on very positive feedback from the participants across all these different programs, Export Connect is continuing to deliver outstanding value for both state industry partners as well as suppliers looking to promote their presence across domestic and international markets.
