We were thrilled to share the growth and participation milestones of the AUPN Performance Excellence Program 2023 survey results at our most recent CPO Briefing! This year marks the 5th iteration of the PEP, since its inception in 2017, and it's been the largest program yet, with a record number of participating universities from Australia and New Zealand. A huge shoutout to all the universities involved for their dedication and hard work in making this possible. Special thanks to our partners at ArcBlue for their exceptional efforts in the data analysis and insights generation. The insights gleaned from this program share leading practice, provide the basis for future collaboration, lay out the groundwork for future strategic decisions and resource allocation. During our recent CPO workshop, we delved into key themes and observations from the data, highlighting positive trends in sector maturity and a growing emphasis on driving change and cost savings. The program isn't just about presenting data—it's about empowering universities to craft their own narratives for improvement and innovation. As we navigate through the dimensions of our program, it's evident that our community is on an upward trajectory, with overall maturity levels increasing. While some areas have seen minor dips, the overarching trend is one of progress and development. Looking ahead, the insights from this year's benchmarking will fuel further initiatives and collaborations, aimed at elevating procurement practices across the sector. Stay tuned for more updates and interactive sessions at our upcoming conference in August! #PerformanceExcellence #Procurement #Innovation #Collaboration #DataDrivenInsights Tivolee Spragg FCIPS David Paterson Andrew Peacock Seema Varma (GAICD) Natalie Budovsky Tony Wilson

Last week, I participated in in the EFMD Global Executive Development Conference in London, centered around the theme “Learning 2035.” Three topics that I've been reflecting on since, related to my work at CBTL GmbH and CEDEP - Executive Development – Fontainebleau— are - creating and measuring impact - designing meaningful learning experiences - how our work will be impacted by Generative AI going forward. At CBTL, when we develop digital learning, we strive to ensure impact and engagement through clear instructional design, high-quality media, interactive exercises, and continuous feedback to learners. By analyzing learner actions and behaviors, we can craft adaptive and personalized learning paths. The data we collect not only helps measure impact but also allows us to adjust and enhance our programs. AI can and will assist in the creation of content and media, as well as effective localization and analytics, but clear instructional design will remain the key success factor. For CEDEP, I am currently directing the 22nd cohort of MBE LiVE, an 8-week virtual “mini MBA” program. In this program, we aim to create an inspiring learning environment by combining two live virtual sessions each week—led by our core faculty and guest speakers—with asynchronous activities that prepare for or expand on live session topics. We support individual learners by providing personalized feedback on each of their submissions and continually monitoring their progress throughout the journey, offering help and advice when needed. For the cohort as a whole, we foster relationships through group exercises, networking sessions, and open office hours with faculty. We put a lot of effort into this because we believe it's essential for participants to feel seen, heard, and valued to have a learning experience that is meaningful—it allows us to create moments of true reflection and exchange in the virtual space. And so, after a week of reflection, I still stand by the answer I chose when Michael G. Jacobides , during his excellent presentation on “GenAI and Executive Development” at the EFMD conference, asked us in a poll how concerned we were about being displaced by Gen AI 😊. I responded that displacement would happen only if we play our cards very poorly. If we treat education purely as the collection and dissemination of knowledge, we'll struggle to demonstrate significant value in the future. But if we leverage Gen AI to help us create and measure carefully designed, personalized, interactive learning experiences, I believe we can even increase the impact and value we provide to our learners and organizational clients. It's going to be a fascinating journey, and as someone who has worked at the intersection of education and technology for most of my professional career, I'm looking forward to it! What do you think about the role of AI in professional training and executive education? How are you creating transformative learning experiences?
🇬🇧 It's been a productive week so far at the EFMD Executive Development Conference in London, where participants have explored organisational discovery visits, engaged with case presentations, and contributed to important discussions on the future of learning. The programme has highlighted insights from award-winning Excellence in Practice (EiP) cases and fostered collaborative work on key themes. This afternoon’s "Marketplace" session has participants sharing ideas across different groups, leading to a final panel to summarise the week’s key learnings. Tonight will conclude with a dinner and EiP Award Ceremony at the historic House of Commons. 🤝🏻 A special thank you to our gracious host, London Business School and all of our fantastic speakers and facilitators, Helen (Eleni) Kerkentzes, Friedemann Schulze-Fielitz, Lisa Duke, Steve Hobbs, Michael G. Jacobides, Tracey Follows, Randall S. Peterson, Celine Abecassis-Moedas, Andrew Jack, Vyla Rollins, Jan Ginneberge, Florence Grégoire and Delphine Hauspy for coming together to make this a successful and enjoyable experience for all participants. #EFMDexeced #EFMDevents #EFMDeip #learninganddevelopment

Schools and trusts could see significant increases in operational capacity by adopting operational excellence approaches increasingly seen in the commercial world and other parts of the public sector. That’s according to a new in-depth report commissioned by the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL), supported by ASBO International Officials (ASBO) International. It was a pleasure to get involved and give my inputs in the research work. The research reveals that just 20% of trusts have currently adopted the ‘OpEx’ approach. This creates a “game-changing opportunity for the vast majority of trusts and the wider sector” says ISBL CEO Stephen Morales - MA, FISBL, CertEd. “OpEx is the natural next step in the sector’s improvement journey,” he added. “At its basic level, OpEx is about reflecting on what we do and asking ourselves the question: are there incremental improvements that can be made? OpEx is a major opportunity to improve if schools and trusts accept that there is an improvement journey to go on,” he said. The report is published on Thursday 3 Oct.
