🇲🇾 Malaysia Carbon Market Forum: Key Takeaways Last week, Johan Nylander had the privilege of attending the Malaysia Carbon Market Forum, a pivotal event that brought together key players in the energy and carbon markets across the region. Here are some highlights: 🔍 Policy Uncertainty: The Malaysian Government has yet to finalize whether the country will implement a carbon tax, an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), or a hybrid model. However, a Carbon Pricing Instrument (CPI) is on the horizon. 💼 Networking Hub: The event was buzzing with industry giants as well as commodity traders from Singapore, along with project developers and consultants from across the region actively participating. The event was hosted Bursa Malaysia who has established an exchange for the trade of carbon credits. 🆕 New Developments: The Malaysia Carbon Market Association has been formally established. This signals a growing regional effort to structure carbon markets effectively. 🌏 ASEAN Collaboration: An ASEAN working group is making strides toward a "common carbon market framework." While standardization seems unlikely, mutual recognition of carbon credits is on the table. 🤝 Strategic Connections: On a personal note, it was great to catch up with many our our peers and to establish valuable connections for future collaboration. It’s an exciting time for the carbon market in Southeast Asia, with significant developments on the horizon. Thanks to Bursa Malaysia for organizing this excellent event! Let’s keep the momentum going! 🌱 #CarbonMarket #Sustainability #ASEAN #EnergyTransition #Malaysia
