By coupling mass spectrometry with cell type-specific in vivo biotinylation of proteins (CIBOP), Kumar et al. are able to resolve native state proteomes from physically unaltered cell subtypes in vivo. In their latest publication in nature communications (PMID 38561349), they identified potential molecular vulnerabilities of parvalbumin-expressing interneurons to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease using our guinea pig antibody against parvalbumin (195 004). #neuroscience #antibodies #parvalbumin #CIBOP #Alzheimersdisease

The approval of Donanemab is a significant milestone in the fight against Alzheimer's. However, mAbs like Donanemab come with safety concerns such as brain swelling and brain bleeds (ARIA-E/H) in up to 30% of cases. They are also expensive ($32K annually plus hospital costs) and require inconvenient administration, limiting their use in AD asymptomatic individuals where immunotherapy (whether mAb or vaccine) is most effective. In contrast, AD vaccines likely do not have these shortcomings and offer a potentially safer and more convenient alternative, provided these vaccines achieve high and long-lasting antibody titers. #Immunotherapy #Vaccines Nuravax

📢 #Publication alert 🩸Vascular #dementia (VaD), the second most common form of #dementia (after #Alzheimers disease), is associated with cerebrovascular dysfunction, often as a consequence of chronic vascular damage and reduced blood flow in the #brain. 🐁Dr Latha Diwakar's lab developed a mouse model of VaD. This was done using the vasoconstricting peptide Endothelin-1 (ET-1) to mimic recurrent transient ischemic attacks. The findings show that ET-1 disrupts the blood-brain barrier, leading to neuronal loss and memory impairment. 795,000 people suffer a #stroke each year in the United States, but recent research continues to uncover neuro-biomarkers with the potential to monitor complications and healing progression after a stroke. One of these #biomarkers is S100b. In a study following 80 stroke patients, researchers identified S100b in acute ischemic stroke clots as a key biomarker for post-thrombectomy intracranial hemorrhages. This finding sheds light on thromboinflammation dynamics.
