Priorities of the Ministry of European Affairs for 2025!

The three priorities for the Hungarian Presidency of the #EU were clearly identified here: 1. All-in on enlargement 2. Tackling illegal immigration through international law 3. "Patriotic" economic policy Between 2024' July and December, the #EU will be immersed in political changes, however it is important to keep track on these developments. Although those areas were expected, the European Green Deal, Industrial Policy and Social Europe should not be forgotten #EU #PresidencyCouncil #Hungary

I am currently in a phase of admiring the activity of the new strategic and tactical movements in the last three months of government work. The activity of the ministers of foreign affairs, investment and industry is quite fascinating and bold. I think there is more to be gained from the current situation and movements, and that needs good, decent, cultural media to frame what is going on.

Winston Peters speech on foreign policy strategy and in particular AUKUS is essential reading for the manufacturing industry - especially those involved in Defence and Space exporting. We are absolutely in a new era of geopolitics, our trade and defence policies need to reflect this and how entwined they are. Across the spectrum of exports, especially manufacturing, I hope that significant consideration is given to policy implementation that supports local capability and content on foreign contracts and reciprocal export opportunities. Twelve European countries insist on starting negotiations on Ukraine and Moldova’s accession to the EU in June. 12 EU member states issued a joint appeal to quicken the process of Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the EU and to formally begin membership negotiations by the end of June. The letter sent to the Belgian Foreign Ministry was signed by the foreign ministers of the Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, Portugal, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Slovenia, Romania and Slovakia. "We jointly call for the General Affairs Council to adopt the negotiating framework for Ukraine and Moldova no later than June to convene intergovernmental conferences with both countries by the end of this month," the ministers wrote. Belgium, which holds the EU presidency until the end of June, has been pushing for a solution to this issue in recent weeks. An intergovernmental conference with a candidate country marks the formal start of accession negotiations, which usually takes years. 📢 🇧🇪🇪🇺 The Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU is halfway! ⤵️ WATCH the press conference below. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib gave an overview of the results of the #BelgianPresidency halfway through its tenure. Minister Lahbib highlighted the two main initial challenges: first, to finalize as many legislative proposals as possible, and secondly, to contribute to the strategic agenda to reshape and to reform the EU and prepare for the future. As legendary consensus builder, Belgium, together with its European partners, was able to finalize no less than 67 legislative proposals, a number that exceeds all expectations. Those impactful agreements include areas such as media freedom, strengthening the rule of law, human trafficking, violence against women, investments in critical technologies, net-zero industry, migration and asylum, cyber security, AI, Money Market Funds regulation, climate change, and green deal initiatives. Minister Lahbib explained Belgium’s priorities regarding the current geopolitical circumstances, the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Prime Minister De Croo focused on the future of Europe and emphasized the success factors to keep the implementation of the #EuropeanGreenDeal on track: an ambitious competitiveness agenda and strong political support. He also addressed the upcoming #EuropeanElections (early June) and the serious concerns due to Russian interference networks, the actions to fight them as well as their propaganda.
