📣EMA has recommended two new vaccines to protect against outbreaks of #bluetongue disease. 🐑🐄 🔵 What's bluetongue? - a disease that affects animals like sheep, goats and cattle - a viral infection that is spread by flies called Culicoides - particularly dangerous in sheep, where it is often deadly While bluetongue does not affect humans, it can spread through farm animals causing suffering as well as economic and trade losses. However, these new vaccines can help control disease spread, protecting livestock and supporting farmers. 🌾 🔗Read more: https://lnkd.in/djYkZYQK #PublicHealth #Vaccines #Livestock #AnimalHealth

Anthrax is a deadly disease that can affect both livestock and humans. It is caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. it spreads through spores found in contaminated soil, plants, and water. Animals can contract the disease by grazing in infected areas, and humans are at risk if they come in contact with infected animals or their by-products. It's very important for livestock farmers to stay vigilant and protect their herds through regular vaccinations. Symptoms in animals include sudden death, fever, difficulty breathing, and swelling in certain parts of the body. Once infected, survival rates are low, making prevention the most important measure. If you notice any signs, report to a vet immediately. Stay informed and keep your animals safe from this deadly disease. Reach out to us to order or become a distributor of our products. Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a highly infectious viral disease affecting cattle. Characterized by fever, nodules on the skin, and swollen lymph nodes, it can lead to severe economic losses due to decreased milk production, damaged hides, and even death. LSD spreads through insect bites, making it challenging to control. Prevention Tip: Implementing a rigorous vaccination program is crucial. Additionally, controlling the vector population by using insect repellents and managing the environment to reduce insect breeding grounds can help minimize the risk. Video credit to the owner. Defeating the Ravanas of Poultry Health! On this auspicious occasion of Dussehra, we reflect on the triumph of good over evil. Just like Lord Ram defeated the ten-headed Ravana, in the poultry industry, we too face our own set of challenges. Each of Ravana’s ten heads can symbolize the hurdles we combat daily—diseases like Newcastle Disease, Infectious Bronchitis, Marek’s Disease, Gumboro, and Salmonella, among others. But with MSD Animal Health’s comprehensive vaccination solutions, we continue to defeat these challenges, ensuring healthier flocks and more sustainable poultry production. Our innovative vaccines are the weapons that help us achieve victory in the fight for animal health and food security. Here’s to conquering all adversities and celebrating resilience! Wishing everyone a very Happy Dussehra! 🏹 #Dussehra #PoultryHealth #MSDAnimalHealth #VaccinationSolutions #VictoryOverDisease #PoultryIndustry

The Veterinary Strategic Prescription Dairy Herd Vaccination Project is key to Zoonotic Disease Prevention and Lucritive Cattle Farming!
Animal vaccines receive far less attention or funding than human vaccines. In our most recent paper in Science Magazine we show that animal vaccines can help improve farmer livelihoods and wellbeing, help tackle climate change, reduce the use of antibiotics in livestock and lower the risk of disease spillovers from wild animals to livestock. These significant benefits have been poorly measured and our hope is that a better appreciation of the value of animal vaccines will eventually lead to stronger utilization of these important tools to improve animal and human health. Clostridial deaths in lambs were reduced by 23% during a field trial which vaccinated them at docking and pre-weaning. In this Farmers Weekly interview, veterinarian Dr Victoria Chapman says, "Ewes and cows require annual boosters to protect them and to bolster maternal antibodies passed to their lambs and calves respectively, through colostrum. Young animals need a primer followed by a booster four to six weeks later. If they are to graze crops, ensure a booster is given within three months of going on to the crop". #Prevention is the most effective strategy for preserving #antimicrobials efficacy. #vaccination is an essential piece to prevent disease together with biosecurity, nutrition, and good husbandry practices. But, did you know that, according to figures from the Global AMR R&D Hub, investments in animal health vaccines have decreased by 59% since 2018 ? That means only 6 cents out of 10 USD were allocated to animal health vaccines R&D, from 2017 to 2024. Sincerely thanks to One Health Trust, Ramanan Laxminarayan, Eric Fevre, Alec Gleason and all the other authors from this paper, emphasising the value of vaccines in #animalhealth, advocating for meaningful solutions to overcome the significantly underfunding faced. Prevention is one of the four priority recommendations from the World Organisation for Animal Health to be included in the currently under negotiation political declaration for AMR (#UNGA24) https://lnkd.in/dufPWQaR Prevention is a central principle of #AMR management. Let's prioritise it, let's resource it as it deserves !!

🐄🌍 Animal vaccines are vital for healthy livestock and poultry, #foodsafety, and reducing zoonotic disease and drug-resistant germ transmission. But despite this, animal vaccination rates in low- and middle-income countries lag behind wealthier countries. Increased funding and policy changes can close this gap, offering benefits like climate change mitigation, reduced pandemic risk, and poverty alleviation. 🐓💉 Out now in Science Policy Forum, researchers including Ramanan Laxminarayan, Alec Gleason, Justin Sheen, Chadi Saad-Roy, Jessica Metcalf, Guy Palmer and ILRI's Eric Fevre, address ways to unlock the potential of vaccines in food-producing animals and show how investing in animal #vaccines is a cost-effective way to improve #globalhealth and food security. More than 6 million birds have been vaccinated against avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) type B since the September rollout of the first experimental autogenous vaccine produced in the US, according to Ivan Alvarado, PhD, Merck Animal Health. The vaccine protects poultry against aMPV, a deadly virus that causes severe respiratory distress, leading to increased mortality and reduced egg production. A collaborative effort between Merck and Cambridge Technologies , an independent custom-vaccine company based in Minnesota, has made the vaccine available in the poultry industry. 𝐀 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧-https://lnkd.in/d9AXqNY5 Animal vaccines are crucial tools in veterinary medicine, designed to prevent infectious diseases in animals, ranging from pets and livestock to wildlife. These vaccines work similarly to human vaccines by stimulating the animal's immune system to recognize and combat pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and parasites. By protecting animals from diseases, vaccines help improve animal health, enhance food security, and prevent the transmission of zoonotic diseases—those that can spread from animals to humans. In livestock, vaccines play a vital role in maintaining the health of herds and flocks, reducing the need for antibiotics, and ensuring the production of safe and healthy meat, milk, and eggs. For pets, vaccines are essential for preventing common diseases like rabies, distemper, and parvovirus, safeguarding not only the animals themselves but also their owners. #AnimalHealth #VeterinaryMedicine #AnimalVaccines #PetCare #LivestockProtection #ZoonoticDiseases #FarmSafety #VaccineInnovation #PublicHealth #AnimalWelfare
