Explore the critical role of both domesticated and wild honey bee species in pollinating crops and maintaining ecosystems. Understand the historical and current threats to wild honey bee populations, particularly the northwestern European black honey bee, ranging from habitat destruction to intensive beekeeping practices. Discover the resilience demonstrated by wild colonies and efforts that are underway to protect these bees through conservation projects and legal recognition. Eco-Markets Australia has launched a public consultation on the Cassowary Credits Standard and the Rainforest Replanting Methodology developed by Terrain NRM. Cassowary Credits is a new voluntary biodiversity market targeting habitat preservation, restoration and repair in the Wet Tropics region Queensland. We are seeking feedback on the draft Standard which outlines the rules and requirements of the program for participants, and the draft Rainforest Replanting Methodology for the Scheme, which specifies how to accurately account for improvements in rainforest conditions through the replanting of native rainforest vegetation. 📆 The consultation runs from 01 October until 30 October 2024. 💡Read the full announcement and provide feedback: https://lnkd.in/gw8het9s #EcoMarketsAustralia #CassowaryCredits #BiodiversityMarkets

Pollinator wildflowers offer continuous flowers, pollen and nectar throughout the growing season. They are hardy and self-seeding, and ideal for reclamation and rehabilitation projects, conservation and pollinator habitats, roadside groundcover, and increasingly in home gardens and yards. Native pollinator plants are not only beneficial for bees, but also for the environment as a whole. They help to reduce erosion, conserve water, and improve soil quality. Moreover, native plants are more resistant to pests and diseases, which means that they require less maintenance and less use of harmful chemicals. By planting native plants, we are also supporting the local ecosystem by providing habitats for other native wildlife, including birds and butterflies. #hydroseedingcertified #hydroseedingcontractor #hydroseedingpro #hydroseedingspecialists #hydroseedingapplicator #hydroseedingcanada #hydroseeding #hydroseedingprofessional #hydroseedinglife #hydroseedingroadside #hydroseed #hydroseeders #hydromulch #hydromulching #landscaping #erosioncontrol #NewBrunswick #SprayItDontLayIt #erosioncontrolproducts #erosionprevention #stormwatersolutions #stormwaterrunoff #bioticearth #bioticsoil #bioticsoilamendment #landscapeconstruction #landscape_specialist #waterdelivery #bulkwater #NBRoadBuilders

In the latest #JSWC, Spaeth et al. use the USDA Grazing Land National Resources Inventory and field studies to demonstrate the usefulness of large-scale resource inventories, describe general rangeland condition, evaluate resource concerns with specific information about status of native plants and introduced species, assess the status of plant species that are important in the life cycle of pollinating insects and determine the economic benefits of applying conservation practices. PhD Scholar 🎓 | Wildlife & Ecology @UVAS_Lahore 🌿 | Early Research Professional @GBatNet 🦇 | Passionate about disease ecology in small mammals, especially bats 🦠🦇
The #Indian_Flying_Fox (Pteropus medius) plays a crucial role in our ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal and pollination. However, these bats face significant threats due to human activities like cutting trees at their roosting sites to avoid their sounds and droppings. This practice not only destroys their habitats but also disrupts ecological balance. Additionally, other methods such as burning fires or producing loud noises to drive them away are inhumane and unsustainable. Instead of these harmful practices, we should educate ourselves and others on the importance of bats, implement non-lethal solutions and support conservation efforts to protect their habitats. Let's work together to ensure a harmonious coexistence with these essential creatures and preserve our biodiversity. #Bats #Pteropus_medius #Wildlife #Conservation

Did you know that prickly water lilies produce seeds enclosed in a spiky fruit? Harvesting these seeds can be quite the fascinating process, involving careful handling to avoid getting pricked. By collecting these unique seeds, we can propagate more of these beautiful aquatic plants and help conserve their natural habitats. Let's appreciate and learn about the intricate ecosystems that surround us, one prickly seed at a time! 🌿🌸 #naturelover #conservationefforts #harvesting #waterlily #waterlilies

It's #InvasiveSpeciesAwarenessWeek! One of the biggest threats to the sagebrush sea—a landscape that 350 rare, threatened and endangered species depend on— is cheatgrass. This voracious invasive annual grass has already infested 50 million acres of sagebrush steppe habitat and is spreading fast. Cheatgrass germinates earlier than native grasses, outcompeting natives for soil moisture and nutrients. So how does TNC combat cheatgrass and give sagebrush and other native seedlings a fighting chance? We innovate, collaborate and think big. Learn more at nature.org/SagebrushSea

We are thrilled to introduce the California Native Seed Strategy – the state’s first plan to increase the supply of native seed stock for ecological restoration and land management. Why is this a big deal? As a biodiversity hotspot, California has an extraordinary number of species found nowhere else on earth, combined with high risks of extinction. Add in crises like drought, wildfire, and flooding--and native plant loss affects life as we know it. But California’s native seed stock is insufficient to meet the growing demand for restoration and land management. The California Native Seed Strategy, launched by CNPS, is a state-specific version of the National Native Seed Strategy and informed by the Nevada Native Seed Strategy. It aims to improve decisions for every step of the native seed production process – from collecting to planting. Fine-Tuning the Mangrove Detection Model An effective mangrove detection model requires both “positive” and “negative” datasets. For example, shrimp farms or paddy fields are often mistakenly classified as mangroves. By adding these areas to our “negative” training dataset, we help the model learn what not to classify as mangroves. After fine-tuning, the model can be redeployed across different datasets over time, giving us an accurate picture of how mangroves are changing. This not only ensures reliable baselines but also provides crucial insights for feasibility studies in mangrove conservation and restoration projects. As we continue advancing these models, the potential to safeguard and restore ecosystems with precision grows stronger. The ability to accurately assess the health and extent of mangroves paves the way for impactful, data-driven conservation strategies. #MangroveConservation #RemoteSensing #MachineLearning #GeospatialTech #ClimateAction
