"Skateboarding is new to the #Olympics but it’s been around for long time, with a rich history #skateboarding just on the street, and it’s a lifestyle more than a sport. Street Skateboarding and Olympic Skateboarding are distinctly different and almost mutually exclusive. Tony Hawk once famously said, Skateboarding doesn’t need the Olympics, the Olympics needs Skateboarding. And if in the rare case you are able to do both, that’s cool too.” Those were the words Roos translated from an interview with David Kramer, our Dutch Route Manager. In this interview, Roos Zwetsloot talks about the skate park she recently recently, to especially welcome women #skaters in a male dominated lifestyle #sport. To find out everything about Roos, watch until the end of the video. 🤭 We are transporting Roos and many athletes this summer for the Olympics and we'll support them. 💪

Finished reading “Skateboarding: Power & Change” by Indigo Willing & Anthony Pappalardo. A great exploration of power dynamics & how skaters of all walks of life have experienced skating and utilised skating as a vehicle for advocacy & change- building social, environmental, and industry outcomes. As a forty-something, middle-class, white cisgender male, my eyes have been opened to the challenges faced by those who don’t fit the stereotypical ‘skateboarder’ mold. Reflecting on my brief skateboarding journey, begining 12 months ago, I can compare my experiences to those of people from a range of cultural backgrounds, ages, genders and identities, and better understand the obstacles they may encounter in pursuing their passion for skateboarding. This has given me insight into how political, industry, and social dynamics can create barriers to participation. As sport managers and academics it is important that we can see this, that we understand the lives people lead and how we can better support them to participate in whatever sport or activity they choose. A quote from the book that resonates with me that says it all for me: “It is what it is.. but it isn’t what it could be” If you are interested in skating, or sport and recreational sub-cultures I would recommend a read.

Congratulations to Heili, the youngest finalist and youngest-ever Olympian from Finland, for reaching the women’s park skateboarding final at the age of 13 and finishing in fifth place! 👏🛹 You did a great job, just like all the ladies at the skatepark. What I really like about skateboarding culture is a strong sense of community and how the skateboarders find joy in the learning process and value the journey as much as the destination. In the Olympics, everyone has 3 runs to show their best park tricks within 45 seconds. If you fall, you need to stop your run. Almost everyone stumbled and needed to pause during their runs, adding pressure for the next round if they hadn't scored high yet. Whenever someone failed, the young athletes continued to smile, even though it was tough, and cheered each other during the race. What great team spirit, even while pursuing their personal goals! Thanks to the skateboarding culture for reminding me that even at work… ✔️ Failure is not the end but a part of the process of mastering new skills ✔️ Push your limits, try new tricks, and refine your techniques. This mindset leads to continuous improvement and innovation ✔️ Share tips, encourage people around you, and celebrate each other’s successes Let’s have fun and win as a team! #culture #growthmindset #learn #teamspirit #fun #win #paris2024

Y'all might view skateboarders as rebellious creatures who are no good to society. But here's what I have in mind. When I started skateboarding back in 2nd Year Highschool, I thought it was just being cool landing tricks. Little do I know that this hobby of mine will teach me a lot of things. 1) Skateboarding has taught me the importance of hitting that extra mile. Us skateboarders always get up after a bail and do the trick once again after we fail. 2) Respect. Skateboarding is not just a hobby but a diverse culture of people sharing love with a piece of wood with wheels. 3) Be more creative with your ideas. Skateboarding taught me to see what I can do with what I can see. A handrail can just serve its purpose to a staircase but we see it as a thing we can have fun with. #Skateboarding #LifeLessons #Persistence

Inspiring and Motivating Keynote Speaker, 5X Snowboarding World Champion, 3X Paralympic Gold Medalist | Championing DEI | Mindset for Success, Empowerment and Positive Change
Such a great read & extremely relevant to Paralympic Snowboarding. The IPC claims the Paralympics are not a factor in developing sports however without the sport being in the Paralympics there’s no funding, sport resources, or programs. We are seeing this with the women’s Upper limb & Lower Limb 1 snowboarding. https://lnkd.in/g9CXPNZe

Ja takaisin skeittaukseen, kiitos 2024 kesä😃☀️☀️☀️ 🌟 Skateboarding is So Fun! 🚀🛹 Every kick, every trick – it’s a blend of thrill and creativity! Just like in our professional lives, skateboarding teaches us to embrace challenges and find joy in every ride. 🌈✨ But let’s not forget about safety in our journey. Just as we gear up for a skate session, we must equip our structures with proper safety measures, like passive firestops. 🔒 These essential components not only protect our creations but ensure safety in our environments, allowing us to focus on what we love – whether that’s skating or building. So here’s to balancing fun with responsibility! Let’s skate through life with passion and innovative solutions. 🙌💼 #SkateboardingIsFun #PassiveFirestops #SafetyFirst #ConstructionInnovation #SkateCulture #ThrillSeekers #BuildingSafety #WorkPlayBalance #JoyInTheJourney #skate #skateboardingisfun #skateboarding #EngineeringExcellence #StaySafe #LifeIsGood
