GE VERNOVA SECURES €700M CONTRACT FOR SPANISH WIND PROJECT GE Vernova has secured a €700 million contract from Danish developer Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to supply 125 of its 6.1-158 MW turbines wind turbines for the 760 MW Teruel wind project in eastern Spain. The deal, one of the largest wind power contracts ever in the country, includes a 15-year full service agreement. The turbine blades will be manufactured at GE Vernova's factory in Castellón, while the towers will be produced at suppliers' plants in Albacete, Burgos, and Galicia, providing a significant boost to the Spanish wind industry and creating numerous jobs. Expected to become the largest wind farm in Spain, Teruel has an installed capacity of approximately 760 MW, and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 320,000 tonnes per year. GE Vernova previously supplied CIP with 490 MW of onshore wind power in Aragon, Spain.   CIP plans to spend about 1 billion euros to build this wind farm, and spend another 1.4 billion euros on lifetime operations and maintenance, according to a socioeconomic impact report by an independent consultant. The project is expected to help provide more than 3,540 jobs, about 400 million euros in taxes, and enough electricity to power approximately 570,000 homes per year.   “The Maestrazgo cluster is expected to have a positive socioeconomic impact on job creation and on the Aragonese and Valencian economies, and also on the value chain of the Spanish wind industry,” says Nischal Agarwal, partner at CIP. “The expected impact of investment and job creation figures make the Teruel project a benchmark for the sector in Europe."   The project will benefit from GE Vernova's presence in Spain, where it has more than 4.3 GW of operating assets, an engineering excellence center in Barcelona, and two blade-production facilities. Specifically, blades for the 125 wind turbines will be manufactured at its factory in Les Coves de Vinromà, Castellón. Towers for the turbines are expected to be manufactured at other companies' Spain-based plants in Albacete, Burgos and Galicia.   “We’re delighted to again support CIP to bring more wind power online to meet Spain's ambitious renewable energy targets and continue to contribute to the Spanish wind industry,” adds Vic Abate, CEO of GE Vernova Wind. “This agreement reinforces how we can use our workhorse product strategy to provide our customers with proven technology that enables them to build high-quality, high-performance fleets at scale to meet the demands of the energy transition.”"

With the installation of a N163/5.X turbine at the Kalistanneva wind farm in Finland, the Nordex Group has now exceeded the 5 GW threshold of installed capacity in the Nordic region. A total of 1234 turbines are currently in operation in #Denmark, #Finland, #Sweden, and #Norway and produce clean electricity for 2 million households. Distributed by country, 2.6 GW is accounted for by wind farms in Finland, 1.6 GW by parks in Sweden, 641 MW by parks in Norway and 152 MW by wind farms in Denmark. Giant floating wind farm gets approval… A massive floating wall of small wind turbines could one day provide power, following approval of its design. The floating power plant has been developed by Norwegian company Wind Catching Systems (WCS), which has just been awarded design certification for the Windcatcher model. The largest version of the Windcatcher would reach a height of 984 feet, stretch 1,148 feet wide and use 126 one-megawatt turbines. The company plans to build four versions of the unit, with the 40 MW model that achieved the certification as the first. The small turbines can catch 2.5 times more #energy per square meter of wind flow than a standard three-blade turbine design. Each unit connects to a central substation that transmits electricity to the grid, and has the potential to produce green hydrogen. WCS is creating a prototype of the Windcatcher design with help from investment from Norway's Enova fund – owned by the country's Ministry of Climate and Environment – and GM Ventures. The Windcatcher system aims to reduce the cost of floating #windpower to €40 - 60 (US$43 - $65) per MWh. A large structure behind the turbines should act as a visual indicator for birds and there are opportunities to incorporate detection and deterrence systems on the structure. A floating design instead of a fixed-bottom one means the system can be installed in much deeper waters. We have now finalized the first foundation of the 48 MW #windfarm in Pecineaga, Romania. The park is scheduled to be operational in 2025. The wind farm in Constanța County will incorporate a total of eight foundations corresponding to the eight turbines. This will be eight Siemens Gamesa SG 6.6-170 wind turbines. This type of wind turbine is currently the largest in Romania, with an individual power output of 6.6 MW, a rotor diameter of 170 meters, and a total tip height of 220 meters. The park has an expected yearly output of approximately 176,000 MWh, enough to supply green energy for 48,000 Romanian households. Combilift successfully worked with Siemens Gamesa on building a bespoke machine for the handling of large wind turbine blades. Now, the green energy sector in Australia can benefit. The Combi-LC is Combilift's latest innovation supporting the global shift to renewable energy. As demand in this sector ramps up, there is a constant need to handle increasingly large loads and this machine answers the call. Blades for onshore wind turbines typically measure up to 80 metres long, but the latest LC model goes one step further. While making light work of onshore blades, the LC can handle lengths of up to 115 metres and weighing up to 70 tonnes – the kind used for larger offshore wind farms. As Australia prioritises offshore wind energy with new zones identified in 2022, the demand for efficient and innovative solutions in the green energy sector has never been higher. LS Cable & System has signed a contract with Belgian power company ELIA to supply submarine cables worth approximately KRW 280 bn for the world's first artificial energy island. This landmark project, Princess Elisabeth Island, is being constructed in the North Sea, about 45 km off the coast of Belgium, and is set to revolutionize the way renewable energy is managed and distributed. Our submarine cables will play a crucial role in the island's function, which is to store, distribute, and manage electricity generated from a 3.5GW offshore wind farm. Once completed in 2030, Princess Elisabeth Island will serve as a hub for regulating energy supply between the mainland, the UK, and Denmark. We will be the first cable manufacturer to gain experience in constructing submarine cables for an artificial energy island.
