🧂 🩺 Iodine Deficiency Awareness As illustrated in the WHO and IGN report, insufficient intake results in iodine deficiency, thyroid disorders and, during pregnancy, risk of lasting intellectual impairment that reduces a child’s IQ. Lifestyle choices and dietary trends are contributing to persistent, and in some countries increased, insufficient iodine intakes. Salt iodization remains the main strategy to ensure adequate iodine intake in the European Region. Ensuring the use of iodized salt in all food products is a simple yet effective measure to safeguard our health. Learn more about the causes, consequences, and solutions to this ongoing issue in the latest WHO & IGN report 👉 https://lnkd.in/dqYpnNPc

Our new paper underscores the pivotal role of diet in early pregnancy, revealing a direct correlation between inflammatory dietary patterns and gut microbial dysbiosis, along with vitamin depletion. The study, focusing on minoritized women of color, shows that a diet high in pro-inflammatory components can significantly alter the maternal gut microbiota, impacting both the mother's and the developing fetus's health. This highlights the critical need for dietary guidance and interventions to support optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. #MaternalHealth #GutMicrobiome #NutritionScience https://lnkd.in/gHZTVRU8

Daily oral iron supplementation during pregnancy Key messages: Women taking daily iron supplements may have reduced anaemia and iron deficiency when they give birth around their due date, compared with placebo or no iron. From the evidence in this review, we are less certain about the impact of iron supplements on other outcomes for the woman and her baby. "Iron supplementation during pregnancy may be considered as a preventive strategy to reduce maternal anaemia and iron deficiency at term. The magnitude of the effect may vary depending on the background risk of maternal and infant health outcomes. In order to improve the success of iron supplementation as a Public Health intervention, it is important to consider accessibility to supplementation and adherence." Birth complications are continuing to rise in the US, with increasing calls to manage this national crisis. According to the NIH, nutrition is the main determinant of fetal development, with malnutrition linked to complications ranging from preeclampsia to preterm delivery. Providers across the country are challenged to find scalable ways to connect their patients to nutrition counseling covered by insurance and support patients in accessing healthy foods throughout their pregnancies. Season Health partnered with Medical Associates Clinic—a multi-specialty integrated payer-provider in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin—to deliver a clinical nutrition intervention for patients experiencing high-risk pregnancies. We are proud to share that through our program, patients experienced improved outcomes, including a decrease in NICU stays and pre-term births Read our case study by clicking below and reach out to us at partnerships@seasonhealth.com to discuss clinical nutrition interventions for your patients experiencing high-risk pregnancy. https://lnkd.in/gyve_avi #highriskpregnancy #foodasmedicine #nutrition

3moAddressing Challenges in Small-Scale Salt Farming in Africa: Enhancing Accessibility to Iodine In the realm of small-scale salt farming across Africa, one of the predominant challenges lies in ensuring access to essential iodine. Despite the efforts of NGOs to distribute iodine, many local salt producers often find themselves without access to this crucial resource. At Japaks-Eli Company Limited Salt Farm, we recognize the critical importance of iodine in promoting public health. As we strive to innovate and enhance our operations, we are committed to integrating solutions that improve accessibility to iodine within our salt production processes. This initiative not only supports our local communities but also aligns with global health objectives, ensuring that our products contribute positively to nutrition and well-being. Through collaboration with stakeholders and leveraging sustainable practices, we aim to set a precedent in the industry by not only producing high-quality salt but also addressing fundamental health needs. Together, we can foster a healthier future for Africa's salt farming communities. #SaltFarming #Sustainability #Health #AfricaDevelopment #IodineAccessibility EUsalt
