TRAI Seeks Inputs for the National Broadcasting Policy-2024: Shaping the Future of Indian Broadcasting The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a Consultation Paper seeking inputs for the formulation of the National Broadcasting Policy-2024. This is a crucial step in shaping the future of Indian broadcasting in the era of new and emerging technologies. The National Broadcasting Policy will play a critical role in the growth and development of the Indian media and entertainment sector. Key Points: TRAI aims to develop a policy framework that fosters innovation, increases the sector's contribution to the economy, and positions India as a global content hub. In February this year, the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology of The United Republic of Tanzania announced plans to embrace Digital Sound Broadcasting (DSB Technology). This is a very timely and much needed move as the traditional FM frequencies are becoming congested and DSB offers a versatile solution by utilizing various communications infrastructures for content delivery. DSB is a strategic response to address two key challenges among a lot of challenges in the Broadcasting sector : 1. Limited radio frequency availability especially in utban areas 2. The need to bring radio content to a broader audience. With collaboration of all the stakeholders broadcasters, regulators and media personnel, Tanzania’s vibrant broadcasting sector shall surely grow and Tanzanians can enjoy access to high-quality, informative, and ethnically sound content delivered through the latest technology. #broadcasting #law #dbs

The public broadcasters of the Baltic States and Ukraine conclude a Memorandum on cooperation in the event of a state of an emergency Recognising the significance of maintaining continuous exchange of information and public awareness during emergency situations, heads of the public broadcasters of the Baltic States and Ukraine have signed a Memorandum on cooperation. The agreement was signed on 4 July during the General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU, Limassol. The purpose of the Memorandum is to promote solidarity and unity among EBU member organizations, to create a framework for cooperation and support among the public service media and to ensure their operational continuity during during emergencies. The agreement intends the establishment of mutual support mechanisms for the public service media of the Baltic States and Ukraine – Latvijas Televīzija, Latvijas Radio (Latvia), Eesti Rahvusringhääling(Estonia), LRT (Lithuania) and Suspilne (Ukraine). The agreement provides for the exchange of information and knowledge. Partners commit to assist any public service media that is unable to operate effectively in its home country due to an emergency in ensuring the continuity of its operations. Such assistance may include the exchange of technical resources and logistical support, among other forms of assistance. The significance of this shift even as the terrestrial broadcast audience faces a downward trend is highlighted by the strength of National Public Radio’s digital channels, which have maintained their reach. Notably, NPR has encountered a significant decline in weekly audience, paralleled by PRX’s decrease in earnings. These developments highlight the dual nature of the current broadcasting environment for public radio.
