Battery storage is set to play a crucial role in the decarbonization journey. While we often link batteries with electric vehicles, it's noteworthy that the energy sector actually drives over 90% of the total battery demand. Impressive growth was witnessed in 2023, with battery deployment in the energy sector soaring by over 130% year-over-year. 🚗⚡️ Explore the Future of Power Grids with Electric Vehicles! ⚡️🚗 Are electric vehicles (EVs) the key to a sustainable energy future? We welcome you to read the paper entitled "Power System Impacts of Electric Vehicle Charging Strategies" — written by Jose David Alvarez Guerrero; Thomas L. Acker and Rafael Castro. This study, published in Electricity Journal, explores the potential impacts of integrating electric vehicles (EVs) and variable renewable energy (VRE) on power system operation. EVs and VRE are integrated in a production cost model with a 5 min time resolution and multiple planning horizons to deduce the effects of variable generation and EV charging on system operating costs, EV charging costs, dispatch stacks, reserves and VRE curtailment. This paper provides insights into the evolving landscape of energy and transportation. Read more 💡: https://lnkd.in/gqjh8qr2

EV&PV a no-brainer, also in NORDIC CLIMATE. People who own electric vehicles (EVs) are more likely to go a step further and add SOLAR PANELS to their home, according to an analysis of a behavioral study by researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Conversely, the impact of owning solar panels also has a bearing on whether a homeowner buys an electric vehicle but not as strongly. EV CHARGING. Communications and public affairs at Recharge. I help policy makers, the media and others understand the ins and outs of charging infrastructure.
Last week Recharge shared the news of our plans to become an #energy company, turning our #ChargingStations into battery power power plants to support the power grid. I'm happy to see how well this news has been received, and how many news outlets from all over he world have reported it. The articles I shared last week were from Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish media, so for those of you who wanted it in English, here is an article from Battery Tech Online: https://lnkd.in/dEvH8fii #ElectricCars #ElectricVehicles #PowerPlant #Innovation #PowerGrid #Charging #Elbil #Electricity Sparkion | A Vontier Company

Clean Energy Transition: Reliable and Inexpensive You just need to do the math and let go of the past. The easy numbers are that using electric motors is 38% more efficient than combustion engines (the wasted energy escapes as heat and noise), which trickles down to a bottom line of 68% reduction in costs for the USA. And rough back of the napkin calculations yields reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 3,674,766,063 tons. This is assuming magically changing all cars to electric, using the same mix of energy production (including natural gas, coal, wind, solar, etc) and subtracting the emissions from EV battery production. That's why companies like Fuchs Lubricants are accelerating technology development to improve energy efficiency. #energytransition #renewableenergy #EV #newmobility #electrification #sustainability #ghg #fuchs #fuchslubricants https://lnkd.in/gkjhVxHA

At the opening address of the FullyCharged.SHOW & Everything Electric in Sydney last week, CEO Dan Caesar, talked about the potential of vehicle-to-grid and how it could be the game changer for the renewable energy transition globally. “One of the things that we’re really excited about is about vehicle-to-x, or vehicle-to-grid, vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging. We think that once that becomes a reality, this whole market is going to go to another level,” said Caesar. https://lnkd.in/gED2CEuN

The use of electric vehicles (EVs) to lessen transportation-related carbon emissions is growing in popularity. However, the carbon impact of EVs still depends on the electrical source used to charge them. When electric vehicles (EVs) are charged using coal-generated power, their carbon footprint is more than when they are charged using renewable energy sources. Read more on: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dnWwN5jQ

Have you ever wondered what the real issue is with our growing electricity consumption? It’s not the electricity itself, but how it's generated. Historically, we’ve associated electricity with pollution because much of it comes from carbon-intensive sources. But imagine a future where all our power comes from renewable sources like wind and solar. Wouldn’t that be a game-changer for our planet? Let’s take a closer look at this. Many tech giants are already committing to zero carbon energy, but the journey doesn’t stop there. Google, for example, aims to run entirely on carbon-free energy by 2030. To truly make a difference, we need to focus on decarbonizing our entire electricity grid. This means transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources across the board, from powering data centers to heating our homes and fueling our cars. Consider this: The electricity demand is skyrocketing, not just in the tech sector but across all industries. As we move towards electrifying everything—be it transportation or household heating—the pressure on our energy grid increases. However, this challenge presents an opportunity to rethink how we generate and consume energy. Take the growth of electric vehicles as an example. In 2023, global electric car sales surged by 55%, highlighting the shift towards cleaner transportation. As more people embrace electric vehicles, the demand for renewable energy grows. This shift can lead us to a more sustainable future, but only if we address the underlying energy sources. The path forward is clear: Electrify everything and decarbonize the electricity. This isn’t just about tech companies or data centers; it’s about creating a sustainable future for everyone. As we navigate this transition, let’s remember that every kilowatt-hour of renewable energy brings us closer to a cleaner, healthier planet. How can we, as individuals and organizations, contribute to this transformation? What’s your take—do you see electricity as part of the problem or the solution?
