Head of Defence and Security @ Solita | Empowering Militaries and National Security through Technology
Past years have shown how warfare has changed and is changing meaning it's hybrid, it has lot of digital components and also rapidly developing. It's key to have traditional warfare equipment tested and battle proofed but also building digital culture and capabilities are as essential for defence as they are for civil side. It does require new skills and new way of thinking, it does require digital culture and bit more openness to new tech to support and empower defence all around. Lack of people is key issue all over and to resolve this digital capabilities that are up to date are absolute must. And yes it doesn't come off the shelf and be done for next 10 years. Autonomous systems for example is one area where data and AI capabilities but also software development are key - what missions are needed, that tells what capabilities are needed and what comes with it. Only this way can really support missions and have best outcomes with limited resources. And who is responsible, how it supports units but also chain of command and so on. Everything equals lives. And yes technology is moving fast, electronic warfare has something new in every 3 weeks, so buying something once is not the answer. Daily tasks in the "office" and on the field which lot are on paper and run with pen and manually in Excel. Lot of supportive capabilities to help reduce time spent on writing and typing and focus on main key tasks instead. Amount of information requires better tools to find relevant faster. Means data-AI capabilities. This does equal information superiority and situational understanding. There are lot of ways and tools to support building capabilities but also how to enable these things within the organisation. Can't escape or find excuses why to ignore those things. Yes all must be done well and correctly but this is why civil side can help out and together we can find best ways to achieve best outcomes. And yes it's big step forward but there is no better time than now to get going, to be actually ready.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Europe is in a “pre-war era” but still has a “long way to go” before it's ready to face the threat ahead. 🔗 https://trib.al/i3x2LMj
