"The impossible standards of being a perfect activist." Anyone trying to do something about the current climate crisis is scrutinized, and put under observation like microorganisms in a bio lab. "Burnout, getting canceled, the ethical compromise of making money, the impostor syndrome, and even what is like to alienate friends and family". I would add: anxiety, frustration, and despair. This series of podcasts gives me hope and some fresh air. ⭐We don't need 100 perfect activists, but millions of imperfect ones. ⭐ This will be my new mantra, one I am happy to share with my CANIE: Climate Action Network for International Educators tribe and my Alethea Global Cooperative colleagues and friends. And if you don't know Clover Hogan yet, she's an amazing and very inspiring 24-year-old (imperfect) activist who created Force of Nature. This is the next generation. And if we want to keep serving students, we absolutely need to keep this in mind. https://lnkd.in/dUc9P2Y8

🎙🤔 Fariha, Tamima, and Manish all had some questions. Fariha wants to know why young people should not be front and center of climate policy when they will be most affected by climate change. Tamima explores how survivors of gender-based violence can be better supported. Manish asks how civic leadership and anti-corruption values can be instilled in society from earlier on so that by the time children are responsible for running society, they fully embody a culture of accountability. These passionate young changemakers have a range of answers to these questions, so if you've been asking them yourself, give them a listen on our latest podcast episode: https://spoti.fi/3TQOFEz #translocal #goodgovernance #climatejustice #GBV

Fabulous podcast from Kate Chaney MP and Anthony James , the world is complex, we need ways to be able to discuss the complexity and come to a resolution, not simplify things to the point of polarization, factions and the need to prove 'we' are right and 'they' are wrong... it isn't the duality right and left ... it isn't either or..... it is yes and... we are all Australians, all people on this planet... all doing our best... I hope we can see more leadership like this... podcast - https://lnkd.in/gVm5VW6H What does this look like? - Kate shared a beautiful drawing and report done with her community: what its look like if they create a fairer, healthier, more livable community through addressing climate change... We need action, we need, hope, we need ways to come together ... an example of creating a hopeful way forward both a simple (holding the world together) AND complex (the alignment and ability to harmonize that this means) ... report can be downloaded at https://lnkd.in/gb3uDj_P

What will we do? Corruption is a theme I'm currently entertaining in my podcast and in this most recent episode I narrate a story from the great Gabriel Garcia Márquez. It's a short story about a dentist and a mayor and the interplay of #power and #revenge. in considering the topic of #corruption and indeed reading this short tale the thought occurred to me how #businesses, even the little ones like me (in my capacity as a self-employed #language and #communication trainer) and like the dentist (though without the physical manifestation of pain) have roles to play in the shaping of how #society conducts itself. We can of course observe the political machinations that have brought us to the brink of climate change far earlier than #nature would have unassisted. We can see how #profiteering embraces #death and #destruction in so many places around the globe. Many more places we don't even know about. Businesses can influence #industries and sectors to set their own #ethical #systems and #standards. It is possible to prioritise human dignity, equally and without #prejudice above profit maximisation. We can choose who to do #business with and where we see behaviour at home and abroad that puts lives, #cultures, #ecosystems in danger, we can #collectively refuse their #custom or their #goods, no matter how profitable the #exchange may be. We can ensure our productivity protects the vulnerable within society. We can help equality thrive by creating safe spaces. We can benefit society by showing it there is a way for representation away from the ballot box. As things currently stand, we are creating more and more fires for the next generations to put out while at the same time making it increasingly difficult for them to do so. Some people celebrate #humanity above all other creatures because of how we love and protect our families. I don’t see that across #society. Yes, we #love our own kids, we like to spend time with grandparents, we tolerate cheeky uncles and appreciate the wisdom of aunties, yet #people not directly #connected to us are simply – collateral. The #SDGs are a single mechanism among others that can guide companies towards ‘a better way’. Which one does your company apply, and why? Is it an effective policy? Can you see the difference it is making or is it merely paying lip-service to the ‘progressives’? These kinds of politicised decision-making mask the fact that companies don’t want to make less profit just to make society fairer. A fair society is "someone else’s job" they say. Yet someone else isn't doing that job! Society has rarely been as unfair as it is today. So who’s next on the list? At what point do we stand up and say, “this time it’s my turn. I want to make a difference!” What will we do?

Happy #UNDay 2024! Today marks the 79th anniversary of the United Nations—79 years of navigating global crises and challenges. One issue, however, stands out today: climate change. To commemorate this day, we interviewed Dr. Sanae Okamoto from UNU-MERIT—a COP veteran and former private sector mentor turned researcher. She shares her insights on the intersection of climate change and mental health. This podcast is a collaboration between The Maastricht Diplomat, United Nations Student Association (UNSA) Maastricht, United Nations University-MERIT, and the United Nations University. It is also the first episode in our new portrait series, where we will interview inspiring people from all walks of life and all over the world to bring you the best insight into their fascinating lives and opinions.

We hope you enjoy the CEIE Canvas Resource on Inner Development Goals and Global Challenges: https://buff.ly/3T96eOC This Resource provides you opportunities to reflect on learnings from the Covid-19 global health emergency and the features of a Pandemic Age. In addition, it asks you to consider new work being carried out through the Inner Development Goals that addresses societal challenges around the world today. This conversation touches upon grief and denial of the seriousness of the pandemic by those who are close to power, the US societal mythology of a protected "city on a hill," and the effects of the pandemic on younger generations.
