This is the knowledge and experience I've gained throughout my career.

Tell me: When/how did you realize that doing well at work =/= doing your work well? Hidden expectations are all around us. These “rules” are what your manager, team, or client often expect… but don’t share. Trying to figure out what the “secrets” are in your new role or organization? Consider asking your manager: “I’m hoping to learn more about how to [complete task]. Is there anyone I could speak to who most recently touched these files? If so, might you be able to make an introduction?” Or, you can try: “I noticed that the files I’m working on came from [name]. Do you think you’d be able to introduce me to them? I’d like to learn more about how to ______.” A question like this can help you accomplish 3 things: (1) Show your manager that you are committed to doing your work competently (2) Get an intro from a higher-up, which can hold more weight than a cold email or message (3) Build a possible relationship with someone a step or two ahead of you who can be a guide Every organization, team, and person will be different. So don’t be afraid to tweak questions to fit your circumstances. The good news is that there are more ways than one to figure out #theunspokenrules —and in turn, create your own opportunities. The knowledge I've gained will guide my career for years to come.

There are two schools of thought. One, the one I come from, believes that longevity truly is beneficial to the employee and the organization. This school of thought supports working in the same company/venture/idea for years or even decades together. This helps us build resilience, develop meaningful workplace connections, and explore multi-disciplinary skillsets. In other words, we're not 'tied to a company', but we're dedicated to the vision of something bigger than ourselves. The other school of thought is getting paid 4X my current CTC with half my experience in their 12th job in 3 years. FML.

This is what we do best - provide a place for students to actually practice the skills and concepts with real business challenges - not just theory.

I really like this learning outcomes-based approach to career advising, establishing NOT what any interaction or program will provide, but which actionable outcomes it will activate. So anything from an advising session to an online resource can lead to specific take-away assessments such as "After this ---, I am able to identify two values to incorporate in my professional summary."
