🇫🇷 France is at the heart of Europe's solid-state ambitions, representing over 90% of the region's solid-state production forecast for 2030 according to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence ProLogium Technology 輝能科技, a Taiwanese solid-state innovator, recently received the construction and environmental permits required for its planned 48 GWh, €5.2 billion #gigafactory in Dunkirk. This is the biggest solid-state battery capacity expansion project in the world. “Securing these permits is a huge step towards large-scale European manufacture of solid-state batteries." - Rory McNulty, Product Director (New Technology at Benchmark. ProLogium will join Blue Solutions, a French solid-state producer with a facility in Brittany, France. Thrilled to be spending the next week in Sudbury, Ontario with Tamryn Barker (谭睿), as we head 'AARP-North' for the esteemed Mining Transformed Exhibition (May 27-29). It is the world's ONLY tech exhibition in an underground operating mine, hosted by NORCAT - and led by the incredible Don Duval ✴ We’ve been blown away by the Canadian hospitality to date and looking forward to catching up with industry peers (old, and new!) and to see first-hand and experience an underground operating mine that serves as both an innovation and training centre providing: Technology, development and testing as well as experiential hands-on training and development. Whilst in town, we will also be attending the BEV-in-Depth Mines to Mobility conference (May 29-30) examining both the incredible opportunities and challenges to be overcome in advancing the battery-electric economy. As the operators of the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct, we have been given the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion tackling the rapid development of automation in the mining sector, alongside Hexagon Mining, Hatch and NORCAT. A huge thanks to Scott Rennie for pulling this together – as we are excited to share the Western Australian story on the global stage, alongside leading technology companies, industry, government, and innovators from around the world. We're particularly excited about the cross-sectoral collaboration from businesses driving innovation in the automotive, battery, green energy, mining, and mineral processing as well as the various allied supply and services companies. At Unearthed's 10-year anniversary earlier this week, Founder Zane Prickett shared the fact that with the Unearthed Challenges, over 50% of submissions for solutions come from organisations outside of mining. It will be very interesting to hear what other industry sectors are doing in the battery electric space. 📢 Big News for Australia's Graphite Industry! #IG6 has secured a $4.5M grant from the Government of Western Australia's Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, marking a huge milestone in the construction of Australia's first purpose-built commercial graphite micronising facility in Collie. This new facility - slated to initially produce around 3,000 tpa, positions us as a leader in the Australian graphite industry. At Buxton Resources, we are pleased to announce a pivotal update from our Graphite Bull Project. The recent assays from the 2024 drilling program have confirmed shallow, high-grade intersections, such as 50m at 24.9% TGC and 10m at 37.3% TGC, further solidifying the project's potential. This marks a significant step forward in our efforts to establish Graphite Bull as a leading resource in the rapidly expanding battery materials sector. With mineralisation starting at the surface and extending over a 1,500m strike length, the project demonstrates excellent prospects for economic extraction through open-pit methods. Additionally, a 750kg bulk sample is now undergoing qualification test work with BTR, a global leader in anode materials. These results, expected in early February 2025, will play a crucial role in shaping our strategy and positioning Graphite Bull to meet the soaring global demand for lithium-ion battery materials. As we finalise a resource upgrade by early next year, these developments underline the project's immense potential in delivering critical materials for a sustainable energy future. Lithium Americas announces closing of Thacker Pass joint venture with General Motors. LAC now holds a 62% interest and GM has acquired a 38% interest in Thacker Pass.   “Together, Lithium Americas and GM are focused on bringing Thacker Pass to production to significantly improve domestic output of critical lithium supply to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and to start creating new jobs and bringing economic activity to northern Nevada,” said Jonathan Evans, President and CEO of Lithium Americas. “We are targeting to announce the final investment decision in early 2025. Progress update from Northvolt Germany → While the piling rigs around the gigafactory construction site in northern Germany are hard to miss, the crucial foundation work they are performing often goes unnoticed. To date, over 6,500 piles have been drilled using a vibration-free and low-noise technique that's completely ramming-free. Since late summer 2024, the work has been supported by an on-site concrete batching plant which has enhanced efficiency and reduced traffic around the local area.
