More often than not people overlook the offset that a bigger machine brings in the performance curve. The deal breaker here might as well can be the current shoot out at that torque (5400?). Infact, the current drawn for other torques will also be relatively higher for such a machine. This will lead to a dip in range along with significant loses. 5400Nm could as well be taken out at extremely low rpms which could be redundant making 430Nm a better choice. An integrational look is so crucial in selection. Better numbers and specifications does not always mean better functionality.

Why is light weighting such a critical factor in the realm of electric vehicles? Well, let's dive into it. According to research by Lux Research, when it comes to enhancing the range of electric vehicles (EVs), there are two major factors that stand out: weight and power. Basically, when you want to boost the range of your battery electric vehicle (BEV), you have two primary levers to pull. First, you can actively work on reducing the weight within the battery pack. Second, you can effectively increase the power output of the pack itself. These two strategies can be pursued simultaneously, but it's pretty evident that shedding pack weight should be a top priority. Here's a noteworthy tidbit: for every kilogram of weight added to a battery pack, you'll end up requiring an estimated 0.59 kilograms of additional weight in various subsystems of the vehicle. This phenomenon is known as mass compounding. These subsystems can encompass critical elements like the Body-in-White (BIW) structure, brakes, suspension systems, and other key components. This drives home the crucial importance of minimizing battery pack weight in the overall design of the EV battery pack.

General Motors is looking at a new way to cool down electric vehicle (EV) charge ports during fast-charging using phase change material (PCM). PCM absorbs heat as it changes from solid to liquid, and releases heat during the reverse change. This technology is already used in computer heat sinks and outdoor gear. In GM's design, PCM would surround the charge port, absorbing heat generated by electricity flowing through it. If temperatures get too high, the car would automatically slow down charging to prevent overheating. This method is simpler than using liquid cooling and avoids needing moving parts. This focus on charge port cooling is a new approach to enabling faster charging of EVs. Here's a "back to the future" moment - look at where we all are in Electrification - with most/many full line OEM's able to work in this space. Volt was the first production range extended plug-in EV - essentially series hybrid. Called E-flex at the time , there was a fuel cell version in the original architecture as well as the possibility of other generators - SI ICE was the clear path to production. Definitely a large disrupter during a tough time for the industry. This program took EV-1 and the 2 mode hybrid beginnings to a new level. It brought to GM mainstream things like Li-ion battery and vertical full battery team & facilities, "modern" plug in /charging hardware, propulsion & RESS conditioning , CS/CD modes , umbrella curves , RESS durability , and other advances in the electrification space. Interesting read for sure.
