🎪 The UK festival scene is facing a crisis. If you haven't seen it- a very well researched piece from Sky News: This year’s festival season is off to a troubled start, with 45 events already cancelled or postponed, compared to 36 last year. Rising costs and corporate giants are squeezing out smaller festivals. 💬 Freddie Fellowes, founder of Secret Garden Party, describes global companies in the festival market as "apex predators," focused on profits rather than supporting grassroots talent. With artist fees and production costs spiking by up to 35% since the pandemic, smaller festivals are struggling to survive. 🔍 Discover more about the pressures on our festival industry and what it means for the future of live music in the UK. Are genre-focused lineups preferred by fans? We spoke to eight leaders in the events industry and surveyed nearly 3,000 fans to find out 🎶 The answer? Most fans do prefer genre-focused lineups — but there’s more to it than that. Beyond the lineup, fans rank atmosphere, crowd experience, and a sense of community as some of the most important aspects of festivals 🤝 This helps explain why concerts and arena shows are surging in popularity —they foster a strong sense of togetherness through a shared love of a specific artist or genre 🙌 For festivals, the takeaway is clear: focus is key, whether it’s on a genre or audience, to help fans feel the same sense of community they experience at concerts🕺 For more insights like this, check out the 2024 Ticketing State of Play report—link in the comments 🔗 #industryinsights #ticketing #music

Pearl Jam, Green Day, Hozier & Kings of Leon should be able to sell out a music festival right? Right? Well not exactly. Marlay Park Festival in Dublin struggled to sell out their festival. And many theories are floating around as to why. Some claim that the lineup is not current and others balk at the excessive festival ticket prices ($117.25) Some say artist fees are so high that the tickets have to justify the fees and others are saying the location is upsetting locals which is why there's a curfew at 11 pm. So, which is it? The truth is everyone can assume, but no one knows because fan feedback is the last on the list for most promoters. And I do not blame the promoter. As one myself, I've always assumed that booking a great lineup is our service back to the fans. But how wrong have I been? We don't have transparent data that can guide promoters in creating the right content and this will continue. Trust me. More festivals will fall.

#Festivalförderfonds 📅 Today is a day that makes me proud and happy, while leaving me worried at the same time. 🍀 It’s been a great pleasure and an incredible honor to be part of the guest jury for the Festival Förder Fonds run by Initiative Musik - the biggest funding there has ever been for (pop) music festivals on a national level. 🏅 Today, the results were published. Out of around 800 applications 141 amazing festivals have received a positive result. They were considered for their work on focal points such as diversity, support of democratic structures or ecological sustainability - topics that are not only relevant for event organizers, but society as a whole. Their incredible commitment and work (most of it unpaid) once again proofs what important role (music) festivals can play for society. 👀 But there is a downside. Also, around 650 festivals did not receive any funding from the Festival Förder Fonds. That means, 650 festivals that are also doing important work by creating utopian spaces especially for young people in rural areas, are now facing financial gaps in their calculations; or will not be able to go the extra mile they wanted to go in terms of social or environmental sustainability. 🤔 Today indeed is a great day - it’s fantastic to see how many great projects will be able to get funding. But today leaves me also with a big question mark, that is, how the future of the festival market will look like if we are facing more and more societal challenges that need to be tackled while costs are continuously rising and funding is not sufficient to serve all the great projects that are out there. It's on all of us to keep on pushing politics that we need funding for cultural events such as (music) festivals. Not only because they are fun, but because they serve a bigger purpose: social cohesion. https://lnkd.in/eUhghTin #initiativemusik #festivals #hoeme #veranstaltenkanndieweltverändern Höme - Für Festivals

My Journey at the BIR MUSIC FESTIVAL : A Tapestry of Achievements and Emotions When I look back at my time with the Bir Music Festival, a wave of pride, joy, and nostalgia washes over me. The festival has been a journey, a blend of hard work, creativity, and unforgettable moments. This season was a whirlwind of activity. Balancing artist and stage management, all creative work, and sponsorship management was intense, but it was also incredibly rewarding. The festival's growth and the positive feedback from participants were testaments to the team's hard work and dedication. It felt like everything was coming together, and the festival was evolving into something bigger and better. #ANewChapter As I embark on Season XI, the excitement is palpable. Each season has been a stepping stone, and I'm eager to see how this one unfolds. The challenges, the successes, and the experiences yet to come fill me with anticipation. #TheEmotional HighsThroughout these seasons, the emotional highs have been numerous. From the thrill of a successful event to the quiet moments of reflection after the crowds have gone, each experience has left an indelible mark on my heart. The camaraderie with fellow organizers, the smiles of attendees, and the feeling of being part of something truly special are emotions I will carry with me forever. #BirMusicFestival #FestivalJourney #EventManagement #MusicFestivals #FestivalAchievements #EmotionalJourney #CreativeLeadership #ArtistManagement #EventSuccess #FestivalLife #LiveMusicExperience #FestivalOrganizer #FestivalInspiration #EventPro #FestivalMemories #LeadershipInEvents #MusicFestivalSeason #FestivalCommunity #VolunteerExperience #FestivalMagic #CareerAchievements #FestivalNostalgia #SustainableEvents

⌛ As we all prepare for the opening concerts and return to the live events, it’s a good time to think about how we are inviting people into the experience. 🔍 Clearly there will be the seasoned concert goers who are already looking forward to returning. But there is a huge opportunity to shape the path for more newcomers to the live orchestral experience. 🍷 The orchestra industry has a reputation it must shake. You probably can picture all the stereotypes that are keeping newcomers from feeling welcome to come. These stereotypes come in many forms, but here are my top picks for changes: ☑ The dress code of the orchestra needs to be of our century, not beckoning back to a point where only white men were in the orchestra. ☑ The new audience members should also have a decent idea of what most people wear to concerts, and that should be spelled out plain as day! Whether in marketing material, photos on Facebook, or concert titles like, “Blue jeans concert series,” it must be abundantly clear to the new concert goer they can come to a concert and feel confident they will fit in, if they wish. ☑ The music on the programs should not only honor the past, but equally reflect and honor our present. ☑ Jargon-filled program notes and speeches from stage must go.
