So many benefits to adding EV charging.

Ionity putting 'ultra-rapid' chargers at hotels, is like buying the most expensive wrapping paper at Christmas. It just doesn't make sense. While it's always great to see more chargers for the public, is this the right move? Various press releases describe the partnership as 380 ultra-rapid charging points are to be installed across all 33 Village Hotels by the end of 2024, with a phased launch beginning in April 2024. Offering up to 350kW charging facilities, available for both hotel guests and the public, alleviating concerns of range anxiety and charger queuing for EV drivers. The facilities will not just be offering charging solutions, but a range of amenities including leisure facilities, food & drink options, and co-working spaces to cater to all needs. This expansion is seen as a giant stride towards IONITY’s goal to facilitate convenient EV charging across Europe. Andreas Atkins, IONITY’s Country Manager of UK & Ireland: “This partnership is a significant stride in expanding the public charging network, bringing us closer to our goal of convenient EV charging for all in Europe while offering fantastic amenities.” But the question is being asked by multiple industry experts, is this the right move? Should CPO's be experienced enough by now, to know which charger type should go in which destination? While we are nothing but huge fans of Ionity and the work they are doing, just like that wrapping paper, that ultimately gets thrown away, this seems like a giant waste. Yes, there will be people using leisure facilities and meetings rooms, but hotels are 99% for overnight guests. Imagine you have had a long drive to a Village Hotel, arriving with 20% battery, you're tired, you just want to check in and chill. But, an hour later you have to come down and move your car. Do you sit in reception, before going to your room, until your car has charged A mix of infrastructure, with mainly 7-22kw would have been a better choice for Village Hotels. #evcharging #electriccars #electricvehicles #sustainability #destinationcharging #evcharger #ionity #villagehotel

Choice Hotels has your back!: Choice-branded properties can add four or more charging stations for guests, helping to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging and eliminate one of the biggest pain points for EV drivers traveling for business or leisure. “An agreement with Tesla allows our brands to further stand out by increasing access to EV charging for guests and potentially drive incremental topline revenue for hotel owners,” said Dominic Dragisich, Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Global Brand Officer for Choice Hotels International. “At Choice, we are focused on ensuring owners and operators of our hotel brands are set up to benefit from strategic agreements that drive booking consideration and value.” Offering over 7,500 hotels across 46 countries and territories, Choice is uniquely positioned to address the growing consumer demand for EV charging. Guests who drove to its hotels accounted for 82% of all Choice room nights in 2022, well above the industry average, according to data from DK Shifflet. Approximately 90% of Choice-branded properties in the U.S. are in suburban, interstate, and small-town locations, with 76% located within one mile of a highway entrance. Currently, 41% of Cambria hotels offer EV charging, and by the end of 2024, all are expected to be outfitted with at least one charging station. Cambria guests rank EV charging as one of the top three sustainability priorities that they look for when booking a stay. Additionally, several of Choice’s corporate offices currently offer EV charging stations, including North Bethesda, Maryland, and Scottsdale, Arizona. It seems to me they missed the boat by installing #fastcharging at these locations. Hotel guests don't want to be forced to move their cars, and most people aren't coming to hotels for a few minutes or even an hour. You need to have a good understanding what's needed (for the property and the market) and what actually makes financial and business sense. Much the same as when negotiating and drafting a #contract, or #investing money in #realestate. Perhaps a case of poor advisement, poor negotiation skills, and a misunderstanding of the market, the product, and their customers. Or maybe there's more here than meets the eye?
