Why parents who push for straight As are wrong: 🎯The #1 mission of teens and young adults is to invent themselves. To do that, they need to prioritise time for research. 1) More time to get straight As = less time for research = not knowing what they want to do in the future. 2) Straight As show an all rounder, without the opportunity of figuring out strengths to pursue. 3) Straight As are a glass ceiling. Tons of students can get them. How do we diversify amongst them? 4) Straight As engender perfectionism, which might work in the controlled environment of school, but is a weakness in real life. Think twice before you push for your child to get straight As. 🎯Push for work experience, volunteering, shadowing, or anything else related to fields they want to discover in the real world. That's going to drive more growth that straight As. This is a controversial issue. Are you tired of seeing or hearing the word "Goal" here and there!!!!.🤦 Well, I would like to share excerpts from the sessions we had at Will to Lead: The Way of Wisdom last week Saturday🙃... So, let's talk about Goals!!!!!😉 In 2023 I decided to read 4 books monthly spanning 4 different genres since I could easily read 2 or 3 books. I raised the bar and Yes!!!!! I was consistent until NYSC happened🤦... Couldn't keep up🥺, so I mentioned it to Peace Adewoye later in the year and he shared his community with me Will to Lead.💯💯 I almost didn't register for the bootcamp cause I felt I could handle it😂, but then I had to tell myself the truth🙈, I've been inconsistent for so long that I needed accountability to be consistent. We had 2 sessions before the bootcamp began and weren't they just insightful, I was able to put some things in place following the word I got for the year.🎉🎉 So because I grow, you grow makes the world a better place, I would share some nuggets with you 👇 🚀 The person you become at the end of a goal is what matters, not just the pleasure of ticking the goals... 🚀 Association: Move with people going your way. It will make things easier. 🚀Information: Info lo n jẹ ki ẹyẹ fò I.e info makes the bird fly according to Lawyer Layi So ask for directions!!!! 🚀Focus: You will struggle with your goal if you are not selfish. The teens then use those skills to create and carry out service projects which not only increases their confidence but also empowers them to find solutions to other problems in the world around them. 2024's first round of the Academy is coming to an end for the teenagers who are currently in the program, so we are gearing up for the second round to begin on May 30. Hooray! I've completed 42 trips around the sun. I wanted to share 42 tips with you, but just kidding. They say life begins at 40, but for me, it started at 35 when I made a big decision. Even though things were going well, I felt like something was missing. That's when I started soul-searching and finally found my path. It took me another 3 years to take action because stepping out of my comfort zone was tough. Thanks to neuro-linguistic programming, I was able to overcome my limitations, beliefs, and self-doubt. Here are 7 important things life has taught me in the last 7 years: 1. Start with what you have and take imperfect action. 2. Not everything deserves your attention, so manage your energy wisely. 3. Your life is your responsibility - no one is coming to save you. 4. Life truly begins when we make a decision. 5. Keep learning and growing. 6. Remember, life is a journey, not a destination. 7. Find mentors to guide you along the way. I'm so grateful for everyone who has been a part of my journey thus far. I've learned so much, made amazing memories, and had incredible experiences. It stresses me out when my son has too much screen time. - He's *glued* to it - I'm worried he's rotting his brain - But limiting screen time = tears and tantrums The only exception is when he's playing ABCmouse – his favorite educational game. So I was stoked when I connected with Age of Learning, its developer, about performance marketing. Little did I know they’d raised over $500M and are here in LA. As far as I'm concerned, money can't buy agency-client alignment this good. Because we don't just look at factors like ad budget, number of employees, or valuation when deciding to enter a partnership. (Although that stuff is important – Apex Growth is designed to serve mid-market to enterprise companies best.) Two of the most important questions we ask ourselves are: "Do we believe in this product (or service)? Would we use it?" Well, my son loves ABCmouse. And I love seeing him: → Growing his vocabulary → Learning advanced math for his age → Having a great time whenever he does it He's been choosing it over video games more and more… And I'm happy to say, he's doing well in school: This year, he's a grade ahead in both reading and math. (Part of that is likely his mom Jen Bailey's strong genes, too.) I don't know yet if we'll work with Age of Learning – but I hope we will. Because I want to partner with clients whose work makes the world a better place. Clients I can hop on a call with and say: "Your product has helped my son learn – and I'll work my ass off to make sure more parents and their kids get to benefit from this." I'm forever grateful for opportunities that keep me in touch with why I love my work – That's what it's all about. ✌️ P.S. If it’s not already obvious—I can't recommend ABCmouse enough for parents struggling to balance screen time and education. They have over 850 lessons, 10 levels, and 10K+ different learning activities across math, language, science, and art. Happy Friday LinkedIn family!   📚 Schools have been open for a week, and the morning rush is back in full swing – school runs, traffic jams, the endless to-do-list… You know the drill. Well those are my Irish twins on their first day of school of Grade 4 and Grade 5 last week.   🎒 It is fascinating to observe how they approach things. Little brother, now a senior, was all prepped weeks before school started – stationery sorted, timetable memorized, homework on point. He is on a full-on planning mode.   🕰️ On the flip side, big brother, also a senior, takes it easy – no rush, a calm and collected. He is more of a "let's see what this year brings" kind of guy. He will check the timetable in the morning, sort his books, and take things as they come. Which as a parent, it's easy to get caught in the "why-can't-you-be-more-like-your-brother" trap.    🤔 Reflecting on this, it hit me how often we desire everyone to be similar, overlooking the beauty in our differences. Not being in a rush doesn't mean lacking performance. Diversity in personalities is what makes teams thrive.   💡 The past two days have been a massive eye-opener.
