Happy #WorldTeachersDay! 🍎 Our Education team has been busy preparing to bring our Everglades Literacy Program to classrooms across Florida for the ’24-25 school year. Here’s some of what they have been up to: 💼 Trained 200+ teachers from 8 counties across Florida 🎒 Received 100+ applications for the Everglades Champion Schools program 🌿 Hosted five hands-on, outdoor professional development trainings for teachers, including a Big Cypress National Preserve swamp walk, kayaking in the Gulf Coast, a guided nature walk at Oxbow Eco-Center, and seagrass wading in Key Biscayne 🥇 Welcomed Braden River Elementary as School District of Manatee County's first-ever Gold-Level Champion School Click the link below to check out our full back to school blog 🔗

Breaking News: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District just announced that the #EAAReservoir embankment contract has been awarded! This is the largest and final federal contract for the construction of the EAA Reservoir. The embankment is the massive levee that encompasses the perimeter of the 10,500-acre reservoir and is expected to be completed by the end of the decade. The EAA Reservoir will reconnect Lake Okeechobee to Everglades National Park and Florida Bay. This long-awaited project will significantly reduce harmful polluted discharges from Lake Okeechobee to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. All aboard the water protection train! Did you know that the Everglades ecosystem spans the entire north-south route of Brightline Trains? The headwaters of the Everglades begin just south of Orlando in Shingle Creek, with the River of Grass flowing southward through Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, eventually reaching Florida Bay! This ecosystem also provides drinking water to millions of South Floridians.
