Education Leadership- Instructional Design Specialist - Educational psychologist - Lecturer and Trainer- eLearning Expert- Math Coordinator specialist
When it comes to hiring teachers, there's often a tendency to prioritize professional experience, especially in high school settings. However, it's time to rethink our approach, particularly when it comes to elementary education. While seasoned high school educators bring valuable skills, the formative years of elementary schooling require a specialized touch. That's why it's crucial to take a different stance and prioritize hiring professional teachers with expertise in elementary education. By doing so, we can ensure that our youngest learners receive the tailored support and guidance they need to thrive academically and personally. Let's shift our focus to prioritize excellence in elementary education. #Education #ElementaryEducation #Hiring #Teachers #AcademicExcellence 📚

Key Phases for Effective Accommodations in Education A study by Scanlon & Baker (2012) offers insight into effective practices for instructional accommodations across three phases: identification, provision, and evaluation. In identifying instructional accommodations, teachers should consider students' strengths and challenges instead of just disability categories. Choosing the right accommodation for an activity depends on a mix of factors: data, teachers' clinical judgment, and student input. This is called provision. By getting involved in the process, students can offer valuable perspectives about their own accommodation needs. The accommodative process is not complete without evaluation. By evaluating accommodations, teachers and students can see what is working and what is not, and seek alternatives when things do not work. Scanlon, D., & Baker, D. (2012, November). An accommodations model for the secondary inclusive classroom. Learning Disability Quarterly, 35(4), 212-224. https://lnkd.in/gptaFqUp

Do people working outside of the education sector realize the staggering levels of #illiteracy in the U.S.? About one in three children in the United States cannot read at a basic level of comprehension. In New York City's "lowest-income high schools, it is not uncommon for a quarter of incoming freshmen to test at or below a third-grade reading level." These gaps in reading skills need to be treated as an urgent problem. States and districts must prioritize implementing not just a K-3 plan, but a comprehensive Pre-K-12 plan. Without systematic phonics instruction (as well as other direct supports, like building vocabulary and expanding students’ knowledge of the world) there are far-reaching consequences, and not only for the well-being of students, but for the country’s work force, too. #ScienceofReading https://lnkd.in/evsaSskv
