Hey LinkedIn, happy Friday! 👋 A few months ago, I transitioned from being a full-time student for most of my life, empowered by textbooks, lectures and research -> to beginning my career as a Sales Development Rep at an incredible company TecEx. 🚀 I was so anxious about this transition from academia to the dynamic world of employment. I've been fortunate to dive headfirst into my new role which has been such a positive and enlightening experience for me. Here are some key takeaways so far: 📖 Continuous Learning: The learning curve has been steep, but I'm loving every bit of it. I'm committed to continuous learning and self-improvement. 🤝 Customer-Centric Approach: My new role has reaffirmed the importance of a customer-centric mindset. Building relationships, understanding needs and offering tailored solutions is at the core of what we do. 🌈 Magnificent Company Culture: I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of a company that places such a strong emphasis on its culture. The supportive and collaborative environment here is amazing. 🤗 Incredible Colleagues: I have to shout out my amazing colleagues! They are some of the most talented and wonderful people I have ever met. Together we're a formidable team ready to tackle any challenge. Ambitions for the Future: Looking ahead, my ambitions are sky-high. I aim to excel in my role, contribute to our team's success and help our company reach new heights. I'm incredibly eager to take on leadership opportunities, mentor others and make a meaningful impact. 🌠 Today, I can say with confidence that this transition has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. It's taught me that growth often lies just outside our comfort zones. I'm grateful for this new beginning and excited for what the future holds. If we're not connected yet, let's change that! (Eng Ver.) [From liberal arts to B2B Tech: My Journey in the Semiconductor Industry] Hey LinkedIn community! 👋 Let me share my path from liberal arts to B2B sales at Samsung Electronics. After B2C marketing internships and strategic planning, I got drawn into B2B semiconductor sales at Samsung. How did a B2C person end up in B2B, especially in semiconductors? In school, I dreamt of a food company due to my love for tasty treats. My second internship at a startup focused on delicious keto bread for diabetics. From performance to content marketing, it was a blast, and they even gifted me bread on leaving! 🍞 Next was a B2C business internship, majoring in strategic planning but heavily involved in revenue-maximizing marketing. I helped elevate channel 'Carrot Market' to the top. Approaching graduation, I saw a gap between technical roles and liberal arts. Interested in STEM's practical industries, I couldn't immediately switch to engineering. But joining tech-tied fields like semiconductors seemed a way to learn continuously. Focused on industries like semiconductor/automotive/battery, I prepared hard for 'SK On,' a battery company, in my first job hunt. Despite a tough final interview, I secured interviews with Samsung the next year, receiving offers from both. Today, I'm growing as a rookie salesperson at Samsung. In this role, I'm learning about the semiconductor industry crucial for national development. While lacking engineer-level tech expertise, I believe my combo of sales skills and industry understanding can lead to a shining career. How I made $9000/month by working just 4 hours a day while being an international student? 1. High-leverage career: I took these words by Warren Buffet seriously "It doesn't matter how hard you row. It matters which boat you get in." and chose a career in Tech Sales. 2. Pipeline management: I qualified hard and disqualified quickly. I didn't waste my time with people who were not going to buy. 3: Mentorship: I learned from the best salespeople in my company by shadowing them and never stopped seeking guidance. Failure is the best teacher. (If you are vulnerable enough to learn from it.) Here's my early career in a snapshot: 🚀 Early 2007: got my dream job as a pharmaceutical sales rep for one of the best pharmaceutical companies. 💀 Late 2007: quit the dream job (because otherwise I'd be fired). 🚀 Early 2008: got an inside sales job with an up-and-coming enterprise hardware startup. 💀 Late 2008: actually got fired for poor performance (and if I'm being honest, I'd fire me too). 🤔 Enrolled in a Masters program to become a registered dietitian, left 4 years later with a Packaging Engineering degree. 🚀 Mid 2012: finally got an internship for packaging engineering. 🚀 Mid 2013: started a contracting role with Genetech. 🤔 Early 2015: left the cushy contracted Genetech role and joined a 2-person team for a company I've never heard of. 🚀 🚀 Late 2017: became the youngest GM and was trusted with the U.S. market. And my journey only got more interesting from there.  Getting fired, TWICE, was the necessary dose of learning my younger and egotistic self needed. (The universe was kind to me; she knew I needed extra help so she gave me a booster.) It took me a long time to learn from these failures because it hurt too much to be honest with myself. But when I finally did, I realized that I learned more from these failures than I did from the wins. It taught me more about myself, my strength and weakness, than the wins ever did. More importantly, I learned to be resilient from these setbacks. And that resilience mindset is what got me bigger wins later.  Resilience, knowing that you can get through the tough times and come out of it stronger, is foraged through trials. You don't build resilience from being comfortable. So the next time "failure" comes knocking, instead of berating yourself, put down your ego and learn from it. Don't waste the perfectly good opportunity to level up.  💪

How many college students will graduate this summer? How many will end up with "miserable" BDR jobs ? Quite a few I guess. 4-8 weeks of fire-hose treatment ... and then .... Hit the emails and phones. SECURE MEETINGS ! Feels like the definition of insanity to me. And now for some Monty Python humor... (sorry grad's you were not born yet) "And now for something completely different" How about an 9 month internship - 1 month - the same company fire-hose as above. Learn about the company/product/etc. Weed out those who are not a fit. - 2 months in CX - fielding customer service questions - learn first hand how customers actually feel about the company and product. - 2 months in RevOps - learning about the systems, CRM and do a boat load of data hygiene and clean up, from leads to opp's to contracts, etc. - 2 months in Marketing - really learning about the ICP, the buyer's journey, campaigns, events, what the buyer really does care about. - and finally - 2 months in sales boot camp - shadowing (and providing admin support) to top sales people in the company - and yes setting up meetings - and learning from the best. AND .... guess what - they need to GRADUATE - pass all of these parameters to keep moving on. Now you have individuals who really understand your business. If they really do still want to be in sales, then ... give them a small quota and help them sell. Put them in a regional team, not all in one "newbie sales pen", where they can learn from other, more experienced sellers. All in Junior AE - with a real sales comp plan. Redefining on-boarding... THIS is what IBM did probably 40 plus years ago! (but class room style) Redefining ENABLEMENT TRAINING! Am I crazy? My bet is that paying these grad's for 1 year and getting "nothing" back is about the same as what we do for most BDR's anyway, except that this way, they are actually learning a lot more about the business to make them and the company successful, in years 2 and 3. So go on, write in the contact, that to be part of the program, they need to stay for a minimum of 2 years. You might also find some CX or Marketing or RevOPs stars who realize they are not really cut out for sales, but LOVE and EXCEL in these other disciplines. #BDR #sales #onboarding

The learning curve was steep, but with every call, every meeting, and every challenge, my confidence grew. 🥊 In just a few months, I went from a college dropout to a player in the sales team. 📈 My story is a powerful reminder that success isn’t a straight line. It’s about finding what you love, taking risks, and being open to new paths.
