Men's Health Week is a great opportunity for organisations, workplaces, and communities to focus on ways to keep men and boys healthier. During our workplace training sessions, we are often asked about a male equivalent of menopause. Andropause describes an age-related reduction of testosterone in cisgender males. Signs include fatigue, insomnia, mood changes, and more. It can also affect fertility. Causing physical, sexual, and psychological problems which typically worsen as men get older, any male experiencing this is encouraged to speak to a primary healthcare provider if they have concerns. Relationships in particular can be put under immense strain during this time and can be made more difficult by the fact that many couples don’t openly discuss menopause. We encourage men to check in with their health practitioner if they feel their mental health is deteriorating.
