BDC 2023-2 filed. I'd like to say it's getting easier. I will say I'm noticing the number of BSL's changing in our footprint due to corrections in the fabric data. A couple of thoughts post filing as I sip on some KY Bourbon... 1 - The burden of identifying BSL's that are missing, and BSL's that shouldn't exist should not be placed on the ISP. It's 2023, but we still don't have a point of truth for coordinates of all addresses that uses a standardized address list that is locally recognized. 2 - to sync your billing systems' location data with the Fabric data at this point would be futile as geocoordinates on the billing system data may not exactly match the coordinates in the fabric data. 3 - small ISP's are again at a disadvantage here because they either have to do this somewhat manually, or hire it out to an outside firm at a steep cost to them, where internal staff will still be deeply involved. 4 - A checkbox "Nothing in my footprint changed since last filing" or "use data from previous filing" should be all that's needed for location data each filing, then certify on subscription data. Upload a set of polygons and then the ISP shouldn't have to change anything if nothing changed. Note - I originally stated incorrectly that you can't flag multiple technologies per BSL, You in fact can. So I retracted that statement in an edit. I'll see you again for yet another BDC filing rant this fall.

A few months ago, a client reached out with a puzzling issue. He was using our platform, DataFi, alongside another software. The other system was showing $$,$$$ more in profit than ours was. Whenever discrepancies like this pop up, my first step is always to dive into the details. So, I went through everything the client shared and compared it to the data on our platform. To be honest, it didn’t take long to spot the difference. The other software had accounted for almost everything, but they missed one important detail. A simple line item that was going unaccounted for on their end. I let the client know, explaining that this fee was causing the mismatch. When he followed up with the other provider, they admitted it was an issue they were “working on.” To me, that response felt a bit surprising, and honestly a bit discomforting. It seemed like something that could be fixed quickly. When a client is relying on you for accurate data, “we’re working on it” doesn’t always cut it. Isn’t accurate data is the foundation of trust? As a business, isn’t that the most important thing?
