Navigating the 2024 Mission: The Power of Simple and Shared Goals. Surely, you're in the thick of writing, rewriting, or communicating your strategic goals with your team. My experience has been that Simplicity is the key to resonance. I reflect on the impactful goal definition when we first began our 5G deployment. T-Mobile's President of Technology set a simple yet potent goal at the onset: 'Deploy 5G in low band spectrum to cover 200 million Americans by the end of the year.' 🚀 This clear, understandable, and measurable goal had a verb ('deploy'), a date, and the 'what'—cover 200 million Americans. The way he articulated our goal distilled our aspirations of having America’s Largest 5G Network into actionable steps that spoke to every member of our organization, our partners and supply chain. It became a rallying point, uniting our teams and propelling us toward a shared objective. My role as head of Device Technology and Operations was to deliver the first set of 5G devices into our portfolio that operated on low band frequencies. (The story of the intricacies of developing the first device will be for a different day... stay tuned). Point is that I didn't dwell on whether the individuals building the network were ready or not. My focus was on my part of the mission. I was on a mission to design and deliver top-notch 5G devices, trusting that our collective efforts would synchronize seamlessly to reach the overarching objective. This experience underscores the beauty of a simple shared goal. Each team member, no matter their specific role, contributes a vital piece to the puzzle. It's a testament to the power of clear, measurable objectives that propel us forward, each playing our part in a synchronized orchestra of achievement. What's your mission this year? "We measure the things we care about most." This mantra has resonated with me throughout my career, a reminder that translating intention into action requires a thoughtful approach to measurement. An awesome side effect of the past 3 years was that I have learned more about our #clients as humans (mostly during lockdowns) than I had prior. Why? Because online calls to them during that time were in their homes. I got to learn more about them as people, I was "invited" to see into their homes, their home life, #online. It was a window into their #humanity. Who they are as people. As humans. Not just as clients. Part of evolving the world of work is embracing #technology that can bring people closer together. Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm all for people getting together in a modern workplace, but understand there is a benefit to having a window into them as humans too. #EvolvingTheWorldOfWork
