April is Move More Month, and we're dedicated to helping our teammates be happy and healthy. The World Health Organization reports that 65 to 85% of people worldwide live sedentary lifestyles. When you work a sedentary job, it can be difficult to find ways to incorporate more physical activity into your day. This is why we created our EverWell program. EverWell is our wellness program and includes wellness rooms in our Maryland and Colorado offices. These spaces are intended to provide our teams with private spaces for wellness-related needs, whether it be relaxing, stretching, meditating, or giving space for new mothers returning to work. August 1 marks the beginning of National Wellness Month and we’re here to provide an option for prioritizing self-care, managing stress, and creating healthier habits. Lawyers tend to personify “resilience” and “grit.” These are qualities that often mean great success in running a practice. But they can also lead to stress and a general lack of self-care. One way to prioritize well-being is to establish community care, where the well-being of all members of a community is considered. Community care can be a holistic approach to wellness, with peer support, mentors, wellness committees, flexible work arrangements, employee assistance programs, and workshops and trainings all playing a role in helping lawyers to feel valued and supported. What does your lunch have to do with workplace wellness? Answer : A LOT! There is no doubt in my mind that you work hard. Think about the stress this hard work puts on your body internally and externally. A few months ago I decided that from Monday - Friday I will choose to make my lunch green almost everyday. Some of my co- workers ask how do you do it ??? You may be even asking the same question. My answer…. my body is depending on my food for energy and sustainability so that I can think clearly and critically thus performing optimally. This week, in celebration of public health week 2024, I encourage you to choose 1 positive thing you will do for your body! Remember what you put inside will impact your output.
