The Supreme Court’s decision on Affirmative Action can’t go unanswered by me. It’s about access and righting historical wrongs and harm. If you don’t know how many centuries of historical harm then you need to find out, but warning, it takes more than reading a couple of books. It takes intentional commitment and study. So many conversations about this.... continue reading here: https://buff.ly/3NQVEck (🔗 in bio) #conflictresolution #theconflictcloser #onthematterofrace #lynnemaureenhurdle #otmr #endracism #antiracism #racialequality #racialdivide #blm #blacklivesmatter #georgefloyd #racism #nojusticenopeace #equality #justice

📢 Sign up for our FREE Home Truths 2 Race Equity Series Session 05! “Reporting racism is not just about exposing injustice – it’s about taking the first step towards meaningful change. When we speak out, we challenge discrimination, empower others to stand against it, and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable society. Silence perpetuates the problem; action ignites progress.” 📝Our research suggests that the majority of Black and Minoritised Ethnic people working in mainstream civil society have either experienced or witnessed racism in the past five years. 🤔This session will explore how we turn this around – so that organisations come to view reporting racism as integral to becoming anti-racist. We will also touch upon on what a humane and life-affirming racism reporting regime might look like. 👉Register now: https://lnkd.in/eCGcTHBP

💡Self-Reflection and Inclusion in Change-Making 🤔 In the fight for justice and equity, it’s easy to get caught up in the momentum of calling out harmful structures, policies, or behaviours. This work is crucial—naming systemic racism and holding individuals or organisations accountable for their actions is a necessary step towards change. But even as we dismantle, it’s vital to pause and reflect on how we engage in this work. Are we holding individuals or organisations accountable in ways that lead to growth and transformation? Or are we unintentionally reinforcing stereotypes and generalisations about entire groups of people? It’s a fine line, but the distinction matters. 👉🏽 Calling out focuses on specific actions, behaviours, or systems that need to change. 👉🏽 Generalising paints entire groups—whether by race, gender, profession, or culture—with a broad and often harmful brush. One way to avoid generalising is to speak from evidence. For example, research shows that 67% of Women of Colour have experienced discrimination and harassment at work. While this statistic is alarming, it’s equally important to recognise that there are different experiences and nuances within groups. The lived experiences of a Asian woman in corporate Australia, for instance, may differ significantly from an Indigenous woman working in public service. Acknowledging these layers ensures our conversations remain grounded in data while leaving room for individual perspectives. When we generalise, even with the best intentions, we risk perpetuating the very biases we are working to dismantle. True inclusion means approaching change-making with curiosity, nuance, and humility. It’s about centring accountability while leaving space for humanity and the possibility of transformation. This work isn’t always easy. It requires self-reflection, discomfort, and a willingness to check our own biases. And we all make mistakes. But this level of care and learning is essential to creating spaces where real change can take root—for everyone. Let’s commit to building a world where justice and inclusion are intertwined, not just in outcomes, but in how we get there. What practices help you navigate this balance in your work? Let’s learn from one another. ** I’ll leave my experience with academia and the structural harm for another post. But Univeristies need to do better. Get in touch if you want to talk about how to make simple changes to make a difference NOW, while working on structural long-term changes. #Inclusion #AntiRacism #Leadership #SelfReflection #Equity #antisemitism #stereotypes #diversity

A dedicated anti-racist organization, the Alliance for Rights and Recovery takes dismantling racism seriously inside and outside of our coalition and wider community. Internally, we have reviewed all of our practices, policies, and culture and provide continual training and education for staff and volunteers to equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to effectively combat racism. Externally, we engage in advocacy, activism, and partnership-building that promotes racial equity and justice. In all of our work, we prioritize amplifying the voices of people and communities experiencing marginalization and ensuring they are represented and involved in our decision-making processes. By centering anti-racism, we believe we can eliminate racism in our own practices and community, helping build a more equitable and just society. To learn more, go to https://lnkd.in/eHr69RKX
