""The slave went free; stood a brief moment in the sun; then moved back again toward slavery," W. E. B. Is repentance and transforming hearts the solution to racism? Not according to Acts 6! Growing up in the church, many of us were taught a subtle narrative that racial disparities are the result of Black Americans being inferior, not the result of structural racism. This narrative has led Christians to become indifferent to the problem, believing that putting things right is merely an individual problem of sin. As Christians, we must remember that Jesus taught that we must hunger and thirst after justice and actively work towards putting things right. This essay provides insights on the Biblical response to racism. https://lnkd.in/gBwBqpbn

March is Black History Month. The National Museum of African American History & Culture is "highlighting the 'art of resistance' and the artists who used their crafts to uplift the race, speak truth to power and inspire a nation." Tonya Lovelace speaks truth to power. “Lovelace says that domestic violence programs need to consider that they may be complicit in systemic racism because their services are designed to only adequately serve limited populations of people.” You have to trust helpers in order to reach out for help. It's important to have your needs seen by service providers. You have to be a helper who sees who people are and the issues they are faced with in order to truly assist. Systemic racism isn't always clear to those who aren't affected by it. It silences and reduces options for anyone experiencing it because they can't trust how helpers will respond. I am educating myself to be the best ally I can be as a white woman. Take up this challenge! #coerciverelationships #jennifercparker #BlackHistoryMonth #systemicracism #RecoveryForAll #recoveryispossible

"Canadians seem to be comfortable with Blacks as being on the bottom rung of the ladder. If they were really concerned about that, we would be taking many more efforts to change the dynamic." Dorothy W. Williams, Ph.D The above truth, that we MUST acknowledge, is shared by Dr. Williams in the Canada was not a safe have from slavery episode of Black Life: Untold Stories. There is much I do not know about the truthful history of this country, as example, today is Emancipation Day, and I have much to understand about what took place and what is still taking place. The reason I do not know historical and current truths is a direct outcome of the intentional erasure of truths by the colonial system of which I not only exist within but gain benefits from, aka my unearned privileges. My responsibility is to prioritize continually seeking truths that have been erased to educate myself on not just want happened historically but also what continues to be happening to folks whose lived experience is not equal to mine, a 3rd generation white settler of mixed european descent. A consistent theme I find on my journey is these erased truths always highlight that Canada's harmful colonial tactics like oppression, suppression, racism never in fact end even though policy was put forward to address it. This is the essence of what I feel Dr. Williams is stating, that if we actually were concerned about the very blatant racism and inequality we absolutely know Black folks face daily in this country we would in fact do something about it. The truth of it is we aren't willing to acknowledge why we aren't doing something because we won't say we are benefitting from others being oppressed because if we stay silent we keep benefitting. And that is colonial conditioning and how this colonial system uses us to uphold racism. Truth is uncomfortable and it is essential. Avoiding it not only allows harm to keep happening, it centres our comfort over the harm that we are doing and allowing to happen. And sure we don't know what we don't know except we are well beyond not knowing. Ignorance is not bliss it is extremely harmful. Encouraging all to prioritize watching this: https://lnkd.in/gAc9GTXT Also check out The ABC’s of Canadian Black History Kit - which, as described on the Blac biblio website: helps you address the historic and current inequalities that 2020’s racial tension are bringing into focus. I'm interested in the cultural divisions in our society. I believe these growing rifts are a threat to the integrity of our governance and social systems. Perhaps the largest split of all is that between the cultural-political left and right. Like in many U.S. states, ours in Minnesota is pronounced. But unlike most other states, ours now has an explicit symbolism for this division: The use of two flags. The recent new flag roll-out has backfired in its hope to unify Minnesotans, with many now buying out the old one. In this new video (link in the comments), I explain why there is this rebellion against the new flag, why it is noteworthy as a symbol of the cultural split in our state, and what we might do to proceed in a more unified way. #minnesota #flag #society

This is why racism still exists… 👇🏾 … we are focusing on the wrong inheritance. Yes, we need money. Yes, we want to generate wealth and pass it on to our descendants, but there’s an inheritance that I’d argue is more important and that inheritance is one that’s based on just (as in justice) values, virtues, morals, mindsets and culture. These problem still exists because we have not collectively said that we want to pass on something different to our kids. We haven’t said that we want to do away with racism and poverty. We have to defeat the systems and institutions that says someone deserves better treatment, and deserves to live longer, because of their melanin and physical features. We have to create something that reflects how we truly want to live. Until we confront that in every facet of our society, these issues will be cyclical. And that responsibility isn’t just on our politicians. We have to model that behavior on a grassroots level to, wherever we grace our presence. 💯 What do you think about this? What’s your opinion? 🤔 🚨Check the link below for resources (like my K-5 Black History Class) and book(ing) info! https://lnkd.in/gtpG5JH #racism #blackhistory #publicteacher #publicschool #publicschools #publicspeaking #publicspeaker #ushistory #dei #antiracism #equity

During Black History Month it’s easy to get caught up in the negative. Black History is a mosaic of atrocities, tragedies, adversity, injustice, TRIALS, TRIALS, TRIALS, and tribulations. Many pioneered initiatives, ingenious inventions, accomplishments, and successes are ignored, glossed over, or unrightfully claimed by others. From being ripped away from the Homeland to the systemic racism still prominent today, it’s almost effortless to get angry and bitter. The best way to move forward is to change the dialogue. To transcend the negativity and focus on progression. To pursue justice, equity, and true understanding. Over the last few weeks, I have had the pleasure of being in attendance for some really insightful discussions and profound movement initiatives. The community is raising their voices in a resounding call to action. But not in the typical manner. So at this time, I would like to invite you to open your heart, body, mind, and spirit to a curative solution. To advocate for a sublime process that will promote communal and personal healing. To invest in your own advancement towards a more empathetic, connected, and inclusive society through a transgenerational cure for racial trauma. Watch the “National Day of Racial Healing 2024” video to begin the process, join the movement, get involved in the conversation, and embark on your personal journey of healing. https://lnkd.in/gX_RVFfj Please put your own definition of racial healing in the comments below #racialhealing #BlackHistoryMonth #BIPOC #justice #MomCongress #UseYourMomVoice
