Tessa Wolf hopes her internship with Every Learner Everywhere will help uncover ways #AI can make a difference in situations like those she faced early in her #college career. The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign senior is part of the summer and fall 2024 cohort of interns, who are researching the use of #artificialintelligence in #highereducation. Wolf’s work in the Every Learner #internship focuses on text-#generativeAI — the tools like #ChatGPT and Perplexity that #collegeinstructors most frequently encounter, she says. She and her fellow #interns are working to help college instructors overcome any uncertainty they have about the use of AI. The group’s research will inform an #AItoolkit that #faculty and learners can use to make the best use of the technology. Learn more about Tessa in this week's blog: https://ow.ly/vu1q50TeCnE

AI-based adaptive learning is revolutionizing education by personalizing the learning experience for each student. By leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms, educational platforms can analyze students' strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles to tailor content and pacing accordingly. One key advantage of AI-based adaptive learning is its ability to provide immediate feedback and remediation. Through continuous assessment and analysis of students' performance, the system can identify areas where a student is struggling and offer targeted interventions or additional practice to reinforce learning. AI-powered adaptive learning platforms can adapt to each student's progress over time, dynamically adjusting the difficulty level and content to ensure optimal engagement and mastery. This individualized approach promotes deeper understanding and retention of concepts, ultimately enhancing the overall learning outcomes for students across diverse backgrounds and abilities. I am excited to share my Artificial Intelligence internship journey and accomplishments thus far! During my internship, I immersed myself in the world of Artificial Intelligence, tackling new challenges daily. Working with NarrateAR, an EdTech startup focused on personalized learning, which aims to revolutionize education by leveraging AI and AR technologies to create personalized learning experiences, I contributed to building AI co-pilots tailored for students with special needs and building the backend for the application. Here are some highlights from my enriching journey: 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 (𝐋𝐋𝐌𝐬) - One of the key aspects of my role involved modeling LLMs to craft personalized responses tailored specifically for K-12 students. It was truly fascinating to witness how these models could be honed to cater to individual needs, enhancing the learning experience for each student. 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐀𝐥𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐦𝐬 - Implemented algorithms like gamification to enhance interactivity in learning for students with special needs. 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐒𝐏.𝐍𝐄𝐓 I had the opportunity to architect and integrate the ASP.NET backend with Large Language Models (LLMs), creating a seamless and cohesive system. This integration facilitated smooth and intuitive interactions greatly enhancing the student learning experience. 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐀𝐆 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 - Delving into the potential of RAG, I explored ways to provide LLMs with greater context about the questions they were asked. Thank you, Christopher Whitmer, Karri Haen Whitmer, and Vikas Jyoty, for your unwavering support and guidance throughout this journey. Your mentorship has been invaluable, and I am grateful for the chance to contribute to such innovative projects and collaborate with exceptional individuals. 💫#NarrateAR #AI #Internship #LearningJourney

This week I had the opportunity to present at the Future of Teaching and Learning Conference, where I discussed "Teaching Unplugged: Understanding Where AI Falls Short." 🔌 The role of a great teacher has never been more important. By digging deeper into how teachers can fill the gaps left by AI, we can empower them to have a greater positive impact on our students. Thanks to those who were up for joining the conversation! A few perspectives I'm finding myself still thinking about: 💡 The purpose of higher education: José Antonio Bowen described the future of a college education by explaining that "four-year programs can be viewed as 'internships.'” If this is the case - what makes an internship successful? How can we develop these programs so that students can continue to explore their interests and strengths while also providing them with practical, hands-on experiences? Plus, which institutions are *already* doing this... 💡 Todd Cherner provided a great framework for any educator designing a course where students are encouraged to use AI. He encouraged educators to ask themselves several questions - here are my two favorites: 1. What are my students learning by using AI? 2. What are my students *not* learning by using AI? P.S. Check out my friend Bryson McGuire, Ed.D.'s new book "The Effective Educator" just released this week! I also wanted to thank Dipesh Jain, Eric Stano and Pooja Sharma from Magic EdTech for encouraging me to attend this great event and share my research and perspective with such an innovative and inspiring community.

Stop wasting your time mugging AI concepts. It won’t let you acquire a deeper understanding of the AI algorithms as theoretical concepts are bound to certain conditions and won’t reciprocate the same explanation in real-time situations. And solving existing real-world problem will become challenging and this will negatively impact your decision-making process.
