When I interview employees to hire, I tell them that if they are hired, there will be a lot of cross-training and every day will offer something new to them. I'm not wrong---we are always on the move here. Repairs, remanufactures, vacuum workholding, electromagnetics, lifting magnets, rotary surface grinders, surface grinding services....the list grows more as time goes on. If you're not already following Obsidian Manufacturing Industries, Inc., I invite you to do so today. If you do, you can follow along as we repair this large electromagnetic chuck (grinding table) that fits on a large Blanchard grinder. It's not holding parts and that's not safe! Through an evaluation and taking electrical readings we have determined that the coils inside of it no longer function properly. So, it's time to open it up, pull out and scrap all material inside of it and replace it with all new. Today we commissioned a new Weiss NR2200Z freely programmable rotary indexing ring using a Rockwell PowerFlex755 drive & Rockwell MPM-B2153 servo motor. This customer application is programmed for 16 positions/22.5-degree index in 1 sec with a 180 arc second (0.05 degree, 0.11mm) position window. An accuracy of 36 arc seconds (0.01 degree, 0.02mm) is possible with a 1.4 sec index. This unit will be mounted to a customer supplied base, so it is has temporary legs for testing. The NR2200Z has a 2.2m diameter, a mechanical repeatability of +/- 12 arc seconds (0.0033 degrees), and is capable of a achieving a rotational speed > 75 deg/sec while stopping in under 250ms. https://lnkd.in/dvG4x8eQ
