🚨 Attention Healthcare Professionals! 🏥 The recent ransomware attack on Change Healthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth, has sent shockwaves through the industry. 😱 According to CEO Andrew Witty, "maybe a third" of all American health data was exposed, including sensitive information such as: ✅ Health insurance plans and policies ✅ Medical record numbers and diagnoses ✅ Billing, claims, and payment details ✅ Social Security numbers and IDs This attack, conducted by the BlackCat (ALPHV) ransomware gang, has caused significant disruptions to the US healthcare system. 🏥 Doctors and pharmacies have faced outages and inability to file claims, leading to financial losses of $872 million and counting. 💸 It's crucial for healthcare organizations to prioritize cybersecurity and adopt robust measures to prevent such incidents. 🔒 One effective solution is implementing phishing-resistant MFA, passkeys, and FIDO Alliance standards, as provided by HYPR The Identity Assurance Company🔑 To learn more about the types of medical data stolen in this attack and its far-reaching consequences, check out this informative article by Lawrence Abrams on Bleeping Computer: https://lnkd.in/gPeVvb4C As someone heavily reliant on the healthcare system, I'm keenly aware of the vast amount of sensitive personal data that must be protected. The traditional approach of offering credit monitoring after a breach is no longer adequate, particularly given that we now possess the technology and capabilities to mitigate a large amount of the identity threat landscape. It's time for a more proactive and comprehensive approach to data protection in healthcare. #HealthcareSecurity #RansomwareAttack #DataProtection #PatientPrivacy #HYPR

A new ransomware gang called RansomHub has published a portion of what it claims are private and sensitive patient records stolen from Change Healthcare during a ransomware attack in February. The leaked files contain personal information, including billing, insurance, and medical data, as well as contracts and agreements between Change Healthcare and its partners. RansomHub is threatening to sell the data to the highest bidder unless Change Healthcare pays a ransom. This is the second group to demand a ransom payment from Change Healthcare to prevent the release of stolen patient data. Previously, a Russia-based ransomware gang called ALPHV took credit for the data theft and allegedly received a $22 million ransom payment from Change Healthcare. However, ALPHV suddenly disappeared, leaving the stolen data in limbo and exposing Change Healthcare to further extortion. The article suggests that the dispute between members and affiliates of the ransomware gang may have led to the stolen data being published by RansomHub. UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of Change Healthcare, has stated that they are working with law enforcement and experts to investigate the claims and understand the extent of the potentially impacted data. https://lnkd.in/ergM7uny #healthcare #cybersecurity #databreaches #phi #cybersecurity #healthcaredata #hipaa

RCM Community,🥼👩⚕️👨⚕️ Find the 🔊 US Health care news regarding “UHG Owns Up to Ransom Payment and Missing Files.” The AAPC published the article. Read provider responses: Change Healthcare and its business partner UnitedHealth Group (UHG) have been silent about a ransom payment and whether the stolen data contains sensitive information since the February 21 ALPHV Blackcat ransomware assault. UHG answered definitively. UnitedHealth Breaks Down the Events That Took Place UHG said in a press release on April 22 that the stolen information "could cover a substantial proportion of people in America." During the first round of targeted data sampling, the company also "found files containing protected health information (PHI) or personally identifiable information (PII)." It has set up a website to help people who are worried find services like credit tracking and identity theft protection. Change Healthcare Data: Where? According to WIRED, RansomHub, another ransomware outfit, is selling Change Healthcare data. The cyberattack on the healthcare clearinghouse has worsened. A screenshot claims the stolen information includes: Medical records Dental records Social Security numbers Insurance numbers Payment claims Things changed after Russian-based ALPHV Blackcat claimed responsibility for the February hack and paid the ransom. The affiliate hacked Change Healthcare, but according to TechCrunch, ALPHV Blackcat took the ransom and left without paying the affiliate. RaaS breakdown: ALPHV Blackcat provides ransomware-as-a-service. Building ransomware software gives an affiliate cyber threat actor the means to hack. RansomHub claims it stole Change Healthcare data from ALPHV Blackcat after the payment. Reports say RansomHub leaked many pieces of data on its dark web platform. Discover the Status of the Restoration In the press release dated April 22, UHG also gave an update on Change Healthcare's system restoration. "Change Healthcare has continued strong progress restoring services impacted by the event," the statement stated. According to the business, for instance, "medical claims across the U.S. health system are now flowing at near-normal levels." However, KFF Health News reports that clinicians on the ground are arguing differently. A therapist from Minnesota informed the news agency that "we are still desperately struggling." She declared, "This was far more devastating than COVID ever was." As a urologist in New York City put it to KFF, "Look, I am freaking out." "Everyone is in a panic. We resemble caged monkeys. There isn't anything we can do about it.
