There’s been a lot of bad press recently on the apparent inadequacy of the UK’s EV charging infrastructure.
How justified is this criticism?
I took delivery this week of a new Electric Vehicle, having become a beneficiary of #Corgin’s current push towards cleaner, greener #businesstravel.
So today was my first ever #netzero sales outing. It was a marathon 465-mile round trip, visiting customers in Suffolk and Essex.
Here’s how it went:
1. Having left home with a full charge (300-mile range), I'd run it down to 26% by mid-morning, so stopped at a Shell garage near Ipswich that I’d identified beforehand as having good charging facilities. On arrival, the entrance was coned off: the whole site was suffering a power failure. Good start (not). 👎
2. After identifying another location nearby by means of the excellent #ZapMap app, I got charged up to 80%, which took 25 minutes and cost me £40. I had plenty of work to do during that time, so a very efficient pit-stop. 👍👍👍
3. Coming back up the M1 this afternoon, realised I wasn’t going to have quite enough charge to get home, so stopped at Toddington Services to get a small top-up. Tried two different stations; both malfunctioned on me. The only thing that received a recharge was me (thanks, #Costa). 👎👎
4. Stopped again at Watford Gap, further up the M1. I was in and out within 5 minutes, having topped up with enough miles to get home, for £7.60. 👍👍👍
Conclusion? Based on today’s experience, I can overlook the minor blips as ‘unlucky’ and am very happy to have consigned diesel to my personal motoring history!
Hopefully this helps some of the other EV-sceptics out there. ⚡😬

3moAre there any chargers with pull through parking for trucks at this truck stop, or will trucks have to drop their trailers before charging?
