Today Stellantis announced a major investment in Michigan plants as part of its electric vehicle (EV) expansion, including $406 million across three facilities: the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, Warren Truck Assembly, and the Dundee Engine Plant. See the article on EVinfo.net: https://lnkd.in/gQfpMzhg This investment will support the production of the company’s first-ever electric pickup, the Ram 1500 REV, at the Sterling Heights facility. The plant will be the first in the U.S. to manufacture a fully electric vehicle for Stellantis, marking a significant milestone for the automaker. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares and Mike Koval Jr., Ram brand CEO – Stellantis spoke about the ground-breaking investment and some of the exciting new Stellantis brand Ram and Jeep EVs on the way: 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S by Stellantis marks the brand’s first global battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and brings a powerful combination of performance, design, and technology. Initially launching in the U.S. and Canada, this all-electric SUV delivers a 600-horsepower punch with more than 800 Nm of torque, allowing for a swift 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. Set to be available in U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2024, the Wagoneer S will eventually reach other global markets as Jeep continues to expand its electrified offerings. 2025 Ram 1500 REV The all-new, all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV – the first battery-electric light-duty pickup truck from Ram Truck – made its world debut at the New York International Auto Show, and will be available for sale later in 2024. This all-electric, zero-emission pickup truck will be available with two battery options: A standard 168-kWh battery pack with a targeted range of up to 350 miles. An optional 229-kWh large battery pack, offering an unprecedented range of up to 500 miles. The 2025 Ram 1500 REV will have impressive capabilities, including a towing capacity of up to 14,000 lbs. and a payload of up to 2,700 lbs. It will also have the ability to add up to 110 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes, thanks to 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This is momentous news from Stellantis for sure, and another example of how the EV industry is creating great prosperity, economic growth and lots of new jobs for America. In June, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the company plans to offer a $25,000 all-electric Jeep in the U.S. “very soon.” We are hoping this will come soon, as low-cost EVs are absent among new EVs available, and will make mass adoption in America possible. Chevy's low-cost Bolt and Equinox are highly anticipated. Having more low-cost EVs is part of it, but a bigger problem is the the US does not have the infrastructure yet to support most people charging their vehicles at home. I'm in an apartment complex with 150 units, and we have zero vehicle charging stations. So an EV is not a feasible option for me.

EREV is THE answer for commercial vehicles designed to tow and go off-road.

I believe that the 500 mile range is the new baseline magic threshold.. Range will continue to improve, technology does not stand still. Lucid Air Gravity SUV was announced and it has 500 mile range. The race is on!

All oversized inefficient vehicles. Where are the sedans, station wagons, hatchbacks, and smaller, less expensive BEVs?

<$40k for vinyl seats and flooring, crank windows, no Rex, no subscriptions, 2wd, 250 miles range for an entry RAM BEV and it'll sell like gangbusters. Trucks in the early 1970's sold for less than the cheapest sedans and were not luxurious to the point of being gauche. We need to get back to that. The $40k number is generous, btw.
