From talking serious innovation in packaging with experts in the hall to break-out sessions on the future of recycling and packaging, to some sleight of hand magic at dinner, Victoria Pittman and Kayleigh Scott from #Granby know how to make the most of two days at the #PackagingInnovations & #Empack Future of Packaging Show at Birmingham’s #NEC this week. The pair were able to connect with keynote speakers as well as catch up with suppliers and colleagues in the main hall.
Two speakers in particular demanded attention; Fraser Doherty of Beer52.com | B-Corp and SuperJam 100% Fruit Jams with his tale of persistence and resilience in the face of retail challenges and Steve Lister, Sustainability Consultant to global brands and retailers, who took delegates on a whistlestop tour of the key consumer, retail and brand, and supply chain trends in packaging.
Steve identified 3 key trends for the supply chain (1) sustainable design, that is, designing packaging with its end-of-life use in mind, (2) recognition that Carbon Footprint reduction will be mandated in contracts from the end of March 2024 and (3) delivering sustainability transparency across as much of the supply chain as possible.
Granby are proud to be ahead of the curve on all three trends. In sustainable design, Granby have been collaborating with supply chain partners on this for quite some time. The challenge around Carbon Footprint reduction within the supply chain is that not all carriers are as far advanced as the industry would like, but Granby will only work with couriers who embrace this policy. And as far as transparency within the supply chain goes, Granby look to only use supply chain partners who are transparent in their use of materials (inks, papers, adhesives etc.)
So, all in all, a great show with plenty of conversations to inform the future, many new connections forged, older connections reinforced, and some rather tired feet. Here's to the next show!

Friday the 13th often carries an air of superstition and uncertainty. But what if we used this day as a reminder to challenge conventional thinking and embrace innovative solutions?
Just as we can question the myths surrounding this “unlucky” day, we can also rethink our approach to packaging. National Packaging Innovation Week is a perfect time to highlight how cutting-edge packaging can turn potential challenges into opportunities for growth and sustainability.
So, let’s shift the narrative from superstition to innovation and embrace packaging solutions that are not only functional but also forward-thinking.

Ready to transform your production line and meet the most demanding sustainability and efficiency requirements? At EMPACK Madrid 2024, we’re unveiling the new US-3000, a banding machine that redefines what innovation means in industrial packaging. Is it just another machine? Not quite. It’s the solution your business needs if you’re looking to:
1️⃣ Reduce plastic usage in packaging,
2️⃣ Boost productivity, and
3️⃣ Adopt sustainable practices that align with today’s expectations.
What you'll see at EMPACK Madrid:
🌍 More sustainable banding: With the US-3000, you can use both paper and plastic film bands, eliminating the need for adhesives and reducing waste. The future of packaging lies in versatility and minimizing environmental impact.
⚙️ Seamless integration into your production: Whether you’re in the food, logistics, cosmetics, or pharmaceutical industry, the US-3000 easily adapts to any automated line, maximizing efficiency and minimizing downtime.
🔧 Less maintenance, more productivity: Band changes have never been this fast or ergonomic. Plus, its design minimizes maintenance requirements, allowing your team to focus on what matters: keeping production running smoothly.
⚡ Energy efficiency like never before: Not only does it optimize energy consumption, but it does so without compromising performance. With speeds of up to 38 cycles per minute, productivity soars, reducing costs and boosting operational efficiency.

#Webinar In early December, ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS hosted a webinar on the alignment of new international standards with local consumer expectations in packaging. 💡
Soha Atallah, Vice President of the WPO World Packaging Organisation Organisation, identified six key factors driving mutations in the packaging industry:
▪️ political and economic landscapes
▪️ growing societal considerations
▪️ technological advancements
▪️ environmental concerns
▪️ stricter legal regulations
▪️ the need for transparent communication regarding social and environmental commitments.
👉 Then, Sylvia VITALE ROTTA, Founder & CEO of Team Créatif Group and President of epda (european brand & packaging design association), highlighted the essential paradox of packaging —criticized yet indispensable. Consumers increasingly prefer sustainable packaging, willing to abandon non-committed brands. Examples like Bonduelle, Badoit, Actimel, and Pepsico illustrate how companies can make their packaging more sustainable while meeting consumer expectations.
Mutations in the packaging sector pose challenges but also offer a competitive advantage for adaptable companies. 🚀 The ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS exhibition will continue to showcase virtuous companies in 2024, emphasizing the importance of aligning with new international standards and meeting the expectations of local consumers.
