The transition to electric fleets is slooowly progressing ⚡🚚🐌⚡ Too slow, you might say. But the good news is, there are ways to speed things up and reap significant benefits. One major roadblock is the long wait times to get connected to the power grid⚡️ In Denmark, for instance, it currently takes up to a year to get DC chargers powered up, whereas in the Netherlands, the wait can extend to an astounding 12 years 😲😲!! Fortunately, there are innovative and profitable strategies to mitigate these challenges👇 At the recent International Mobility Portal Summit hosted by Mobility Portal Europe, our CIO and co-founder, Torben Fog, discussed the challenges of transitioning fleets including heavy vehicles to electric. Here, he highlighted some of the innovative energy management solutions we're pioneering at Spirii to ensure a faster time-to-market, improve grid stability, and create new revenue streams. It is estimated that by 2030 the US will need to 20x its current EV charging infrastructure if it is to keep up with EV demand and federal targets. The problem is that our electrical grids — in the US and around the world — are already under incredible pressure. MPs hear about work being done to speed up connections to the grid and enable EV transition MPs from the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Electric Vehicles have heard about the work being done to speed up connections to the grid and help enable quicker electric vehicle charger activation.  Earlier this year the UK’s Electricity Networks Commissioner Nick Winser published an independent report setting out recommendations to halve the total development time for transmission infrastructure. Last week, he updated MPs on progress being made and the work being done to accelerate the pace of renewable energy deployment which will in turn support the roll-out of electric vehicles and associated charging infrastructure. The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Electric Vehicles also heard from Ken McMeikan - CEO of Moto Hospitality - who has urged the Government to accelerate the availability of sufficient power to major travel hubs like Motorway Service Areas. TravelCenters of America (TA) has broken ground on one of the country’s first publicly accessible medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) truck charging stations at its TA Ontario, California travel center. By early 2025, the charging station will feature four 400kW chargers. An additional one MW charger with the ability to provide DC ultra-fast charging for up to five trucks at once will go live in 2026. The station will double as an innovation site where bp can test and demonstrate new technologies, including the deployment of the first available megawatt charger systems, an integrated microgrid capable of generating power from 250 kilowatts of canopy-mounted solar panels. #electricvehicles #zeroemissions
